[ Note added 2012. Monibeg - Bagenalstown. Guinea = one pound, one shilling, Crown = five shillings ]. Pat Purcell Papers. 1800. Thomas Lawlor of Kilkenny, Huckester, came before me this day and made an oath on the Holy Evangelists that on the beginning of February last he sold a mare to Richard Bryan of Ballycavis which mare he had bought before from Michael Cummins, of Monibeg, Publican, believing it to be his lawful property for the sum of three Guineas and a Crown (signed) Thomas Lawlor. Sworn before me this 17th day of June 1800. (signed) Walter Kavanagh.
Thanks very much for the Cummins documents. This Michael Cummins from Monibeg is likely the one mentioned here: 1797 License to sell Ale, County of Carlow, Beauchamp Bagenal, Esq., Justice of the Peace. Certify Micl. Cummins of Moneybeg properly qualified to be licensed to sell ale, 10th day Oct 1797, signed B. Bagenal And probably the same person as noted in this interesting little piece from the PPP... Stephen James and Julia James of Moland [ ? ], Moneybegg in the Parish of Dunleckney, Carlow came before me voluntary to make Oath that to the best of their knowledge Michael Cummin of Moneybeg is not to be believed on his Oath that his head has not been considered steady since his imprisonment at Leighlinbridge in 1798. So help us God (signed) Stephen James, Julia James. Sworn before me on this 5th day of July 1803. (signed) Richard Weld. I don't know much about this Michael, but there was also a John Cummins in Moneybeg/Bagenalstown who was a publican and innkeeper, getting a license to sell spirits at the same time as Michael in 1829.
