‘Through the Years’, Carlow 800 History Conference During 2013 the town of Carlow celebrates the 800th anniversary of the construction of Carlow Castle and the foundations of what is now a cultural, creative and socially vibrant town. As part of the town’s celebrations a major conference on the topic of Carlow’s 800 years of history will be held in Carlow College (St Patrick’s College). The keynote lecture will be delivered by Dr Kieran O’Conor (NUIG) one of Ireland’s foremost medieval archaeologists and excavator of Carlow Castle. Other speakers are Revd. Dr Adrian Empey, Dr Margaret Murphy (Carlow College), Dr Emmett O’Byrne (Carlow IT), Ms Elaine Callinan (Carlow College), Dr Arnold Horner (UCD), Very Revd. Robert MacCarthy, Dr Thomas McGrath (Carlow College) and Mr Jimmy O’Toole. Professor Michael Herity MRIA will launch his new publication Ordnance Survey Letters Wicklow & Carlow at this Conference.
