It’s all to do with ‘The Rose of Tralee’ lately and Carlow man Harry Hynes ( whose grandparents owned Hynes's shop at the Shamrock Square ) a former London based business entrepreneur now settled in Tralee with his wife Catherine is hosting a special ‘Gathering’ in The Greyhound Bar on Saturday at 3.00pm. The event is in honour of Grace Kenny, The London Rose of Tralee 2013 and all her London, Crawley and Carlow supporters are invited. The Rahanna Marching Band down from Carlow will also be there. I attach a piece from Kerry’s Eye newspaperGrace was born and bred in Crawley near Gatwick Airport in West Sussex. Her late father Martin was born on the Dublin Rd in Tullow and emigrated with his parents and 7 other brothers and sisters to the UK in the early 60's. She grew up in Crawley to appreciate all things Irish and is a great Irish dancer and was part of the Celtic Coleens dance troupe that got to the semi finals of Britain's got talent a few years ago. Crawley's Celtic and Irish Cultural Society nominated and sponsored her to take part in the London Rose selection night and she won that. She got through also in the regional qualifiers in Portlaoise a few months back and now is one of the final 32 we'll see with Daithi O'Sé on RTE on Monday and Tuesday night. She was back in Carlow last weekend to catch up on her heritage and there are some great pictures of her in this weeks Carlow Nationalist and Carlow People newspaper. A song 'Journey Back Home' by Paul Stanworth a singer songwriter from Bradford but based in Crawley wrote the song following her success in London. The song has been aired now in four different countries and three different continents and no doubt will be played in Tralee at every opportunity when her supporters get there this weekend.
