Both families were in the drapery business from the mid-1800s and were related through marriage. George and Frances Jane (Banks) Hadden started the family drapery business in Wexford in 1848, although I believe they took over a business formerly known as Banks & Fitzhenry. The Hadden drapery business opened a store in Dungarvan in 1906 and in Carlow in 1909. The Banks family also had drapery businesses in Kilkenny and Carlow.
