Tom You are absolutely correct regarding the Y DNA and Mitochondrial DNA test - it is not the test I am referring to. It is the DNA FAMILY FINDER test $199 - which I am referring to which both male and females can undertake to find cousins on all sides up to 5th cousins. My husband has connected with a cousin in Canada who is a 2nd cousin, as well as a 3rd cousin and quite a few who are fourth cousins. Still trying to sort out the relationships. I just thought it would be a fascinating exercise [if interest naturally] for some of the Carlow list as it could prove a very useful tool making connections in Carlow. I have a mitrocondrial DNA sampling as well, but all that does is identify very distant relatives, so far none from Carlow (but one from Longford, also on my mother's side). As you might have guessed, my Reeds were from Ulster (possibly near Londonderry) and emigrated to Pennsylvania Province at the beginning of the 18th century. Prior to 1600 or so, my Reeds were border reivers living in the Middle March on the English side.
