This is something I hadn't considered....My family indicated that my gg-father was a sailor....that's all we know. I was looking into merchant marine records and getting nowhere, but now I'm wondering if maybe he worked on the canal boats. He was from Rathvilly but married my gg-mother Agnes King, who lived on Sleaty St Graigue. Thanks for bringing up this topic!
