There was an abundance of Gahan and variant spellings of Geehan and Gehin around the Ballon parish area. My ggg-grandmother's brother Michael Green married Ally Geehan/Gahan in 1823 in Catholic parish of Ballon. The residence was given as Castlemore (about 1 mile west of Tullow) and witnesses were Joseph Eustace & Patrick Geehan. The Ballon parish records have Bridget Gehin, Catherine Gehin, Mary Gehin and James Gehin as adult witnesses in the records in the 1780s and 1790s. There is also a child Hugh Gehin, of James Gehin and Catherine, baptized in 1794. If you are interested in any of these folks, let me know and I can send you the details of the records. ~Sue C. -----Original Message----- From: irl-carlow-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-carlow-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of John Shepperd Sent: Friday, July 05, 2013 4:34 AM To: irl-carlow@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-CARLOW] IRL-CARLOW Digest, Vol 8, Issue 235 Interesting to see reports of the Rev John Gahan. Pardon my ignorance, but what is PP an abbreviation for? Protestant Priest or public prosecutor? What were they agitating about? There is a Gahan who was deported to Australia for sheep rustling in about 1815, together with several other villains. He was involved in building the road from Sydney to the Blue mountains, and made a reasonable amount of money. Also a Dorothy Gahan who married a James Oliver of Leighlinbridge, and allegedly died in 1845. Anyone know more about this family? Maybe the sheep rustlers were actually agitating, or just deperate? > From: irl-carlow-request@rootsweb.com > Subject: IRL-CARLOW Digest, Vol 8, Issue 235 > To: irl-carlow@rootsweb.com > Date: Fri, 5 Jul 2013 01:00:53 -0600 > > > > Before you send an email to this List you must first of all subscribe to the List. > > Today's Topics: > > 1.
