    3. Question for Mick Purcell. Am I right in thinking that the Carlow ancestors of Elvis Presley came to Ireland as soldiers in the Parliamentarian army under Oliver Cromwell in 1649 ?

    3. The first Presley land transaction we have in Carlow is dated 1654 for Andrew Presley purchasing land from John Richmond "late a soldier in Col. Henry Pritres troops". No idea if Andrew was himself a soldier or an adventurer but more likely he was an adventurer as most of the disbanding soldiers were selling not buying. 3. Thanks Mick, interesting to see Roger Nolan has record of John Presley in Hackettstown 140 years after that land transaction some of the family must have remained in Ireland ? > Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2013 19:24:59 +0100 > From: carlowmike@gmail.com > To: irl-carlow@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [IRL-CARLOW] Elvis. > > The first Presley land transaction we have in Carlow is dated 1654 for > Andrew Presley purchasing land from John Richmond "late a soldier in Col. > Henry Pritres troops".
