    3. Tis the Season of Family Gatherings! The Nolan Clan, for which I am the newsletter editor, will be holding its biannual gathering in Carlow on the weekend of September 7-8. For anyone interested below is a copy of the invitation sent out by Madeline (Nolan) Salter of Bagenalstown, our current modern-day clan chief. " The Chief of the Nolan Clan, Madeline Salter, would like to invite all Nolans, their families and friends from around the world to the Clan Gathering taking place in Carlow on 7 and 8 September. The Clan is celebrating its 17th Year and it is hoping to have as many people as possible return to meet their Irish relatives at our gathering on 7 and 8 September. A two day Programme of events has been organised including a special ceremony to inaugurate its new Chief, Mary Nolan of Waterford. On Saturday 7 September there will be a visit to Kilkenny Castle including lunch within the Castle, a visit to Castlecomer Discovery Park including a Coal Mining Museum and sporting activities. In the evening there will be a special Gala Dinner followed by a traditional Irish Ceili, so bring your dancing shoes !!! On Sunday 8 September there will be a visit to the Dunbrody Famine Ship in New Ross, Co. Wexford and ROS Tapestry Centre where stories of Ireland in times past are told in thread. There will be a talk on the origin of the name Nolan including its links to local townslands. A special rate for guests attending the Clan celebrations has been arranged with the Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow. This hotel is within walking distance of the town centre, buses and trains.
