re: can somebody point me to a book/ resource where I can get some true answers. I don't think there is any one book. The more I read about Irish history from a range of different perspectives, the more I realize how nuanced history is and that power unchecked - no matter who wields it - always ends badly. Try reading a mix of history, poetry, fiction, memoirs and then after doing that, squint and look sideways and then you might have it. And if this message gets through (it seems that my email is easily bounced by this list for some arcane technical reason), I have been putting more material up on my site - the most recent concerning JACKSONs and Drogheda.
