Also, Diocesan priests are often called Secular priests as they do not belong to a religious order (sanctioned by the Pope). Because they do not take vows of poverty, they may own assets as any other citizen. Additional monies they may possess (over and above meager Church salaries) quite often come from their families or from their personal investments. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cara_Links" <Cara_Links@bigpond.com> To: <irl-carlow@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 06, 2010 5:46 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-CARLOW] Fast and Abstinence !. > 1.Diocesan priests - Diocesan priests commit their lives to serving the > people of a diocese, which is a church administrative region, and > typically > work in parishes, schools, or other Catholic institutions as assigned by > the > bishop of their diocese. I was in a religious order but we weren't allowed to own ANYTHING because of our vow of poverty. We never said "my" shoes etc because they were only "to my use". Don't know if it's still the same, guess it would be. I also have read many wills where the Irish clergyman has left his Vestments and monies and books to the church, would this happen now? and please understand it was not a lot of money although 500 pounds would have been a lot in 1858 I guess Cara
