castle hill is as it states - a hill - it is a street in carlow town and the bulk of that street is taken up with the high wall of st. mary's church of ireland church. the bottom of castle hill runs into kennedy street and the top of it meets with dublin street - not to be confused with dublin road which started at the court house after the shopping area. so there is a dublin st. and a dublin road which may cause considerable confusion for people not familiar with carlow town. also kennedy st. was named after president kennedy and therefore is relatively "new" - cannot remember what it was called before that and cannot look it up as the map is at home in carlow and i am in my london house. sorry. hope this explains a lot or has some meaning for some people. Anna, to add to the confusion I have to say that is a mistake many people make ......where you place Castle Hill is actually Castle Street...Castle Hill is down at the Castle on the street where the Boot Factory was, it runs from John Street junction to Governey Square and is about a 5 minute walk from where the Bowls family lived on Dublin Road.!.....Kennedy Street was formerly Coal Market. Anna, Alan has already commenced transcribing the photocopies , when he has the content typed up you should be able to gain some information from the results....
