Hi Tom, Myn Sheil relatives had the same situation. James Sheil married Catherine Walsh @1865. he was protestant and she was Catholic. Their solutyon was to raise their four sons Protestant after the father's religion ,and the one daughter, my grandmother, Catholic after her mother's religion. TJames and Catherine also are buried in two separate cemeteries...apparently neither converted to the other's religion. Kind of sad to think of being buried separately. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tom LaPorte To: irl-carlow@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, March 27, 2010 6:57 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-CARLOW] Bowles Hi Mick and list This one may be a mixed marriage. William Bowles was indeed Protestant but this only makes sense if Sarah Moore was Catholic. Their son Robert was not only baptized at the Catholic church on June 25, 1773 he was also baptized at St. Mary's Carlow (C of I) just 5 days earlier. Also, Robert was raised Catholic but later married a Quaker, Anne Waring, the widow of Thomas Baker of Ballickmoyler. Do any of the other known Protestant entries which you saw, look like mixed marriages? That has been my theory on this one anyway. I think their treatment by their families might have been even sadder. I know of two brother's lines, one Protestant and one who married a Catholic and raised the children Catholic, who emigrated to Canada the same year and to this day the two families refuse to admit that there is any connection to each other. That must have been how they felt when they arrived and it never changed. Also, the Catholic branch prospered in Canada and the Protestant family ended up losing their farms, going out west to settle and then losing everything out there. Now both look down on the other one and my documentation that their ancestors were brothers was never acknowledged by either family. Now that's sad. -----Original Message----- From: irl-carlow-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-carlow-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Maribeth Nolan Sent: 27 March 2010 16:13 To: irl-carlow@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-CARLOW] Bowles Importance: High Hi Tom, Myn Sheil relatives had the same situation.
