Brian There will be several differences between what you and the Carlow team are doing and one of those is that you will enter the letters you can read in a name for example Sm...? or Bre....n? and leave the reader to decide for themselves what they might think the word is whereas the professionals will not put any information at all. I found this in the 1911 records; because the enumerator couldn't read the word on the original records they didn't put any name in at all and yet when I opened the pdf I found I could read the name quite clearly and I'm only an armature.
