Roger I am overwhelmed with your kindness! ................and stunned that Thomas might be from Scotland and not Ireland!! I would never have thought of all these possiblities without the help of the people on this list. I shall let you know if I have any success following up. This has always been one of the brick walls in my research and I am excited to think I might be able to vault over it. Thank you so very much!! Dee In a message dated 1/29/2010 2:57:28 P.M. I therefore looked for Shiels in the 1851 census and found the following family living in Montreal county, St. Laurent. I believe this to be the St. Laurent district of modern-day Montreal. The main train station in Montreal at the time was the "Victoria Station" so this could also be the "Victoria" meant on the immigration form. 1851 Census - Montreal county, St. Laurent ---------------------------------------------------- James Shiells 45, trader, Scotland, Presbyterian Agnes Boa, 37, b.
