Does anyone know anything more of D'Israeli School, Bough, Rathvilly, Co. Carlow? My notes tell me that it was completed in 1826 and designed by Joseph Welland, later Vice-President of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland, for an uncle of Benjamin Disraeli, the British Prime Minister, who had won a National Lottery and decided to put the money to good use. D'Israeli died in 1814 and bequeathed £3000 for the establishment and support of a non-denominational school "for the education of the poor of Rathvilly". In 1818, D'Israeli's home at Beechey Park was sold by Hugh Cumming, the administrator of the estate of Benjamin D'Israeli, to James Eustace for £2400 Stg. Richard Corrigan published something on the D'Israeli school in Carlovina in 1970s, have you seen that ? did you spot the school re-opening item among the 1922 submissions to List ?
