    3. Butler's Public House present-day Bradleys in Graiguecullen. Nationalist, August 1956. The death of Mr John Butler, Maryboro Street, Graiguecullen which occurred on Sunday at his residence evoked feelings of deep regret in Carlow. The late Mr Butler was attached to "A" Company 1st Batt. Carlow Brigade, Irish Republican Army, and after the truce he joined the National Army with the rank of Captain. He retired in 1929 being retained on the reserve. He rejoined during the Emergency and at the end of the World War he returned to manage his licensed premises in 1945. Of a quite disposition , he was very popular with all classes. The funeral to St. Mary's Cemetery on Tuesday , where a party of old comrades fired three volleys over the grave and the last post was sounded, was large and representative.
