Maurice Hackettstown is close as are all the places in Carlow but I really don't know I'm sorry which is why I have posted to the list hoping for more information prior to 1832. Originally this family was from England and I have found them spelling the name Colman as well. You might well be right about Comen but you will need better proof than a suspicion to confirm this besides 1848 is getting a bit late for too many spelling mistakes I would have thought. Barbara, The spelling mistake could have occurred at immigration. It certainly did, in the opposite direction, in church records in Baltimore when the children died! You're right -- it's just a suspicion at the moment. But it's the best I've done after 3 trips to Carlow over 52 years!
