Hi Michael I presume your comment > (Gentry at it? !) means that they were making themselves out to be worth something; but what was the purpose of declaring their worth in front of a magistrate! I am presuming the declaration was made to a magistrate DL or JP perhaps. What were they accomplishing? Did it mean they could register to vote perhaps?
