    3. Pat Connors of Irish-America rootsweb put this up today: If you use a Family History Center (Family History Library) near you and you would like to order a film, that you can do it online? I didn't and I visit mine twice a week. Sometimes, I go over there just to order a film. I found out today that you can now order films at their website, pay for them online and your center will call you, as usual, when then arrive. Here is the url for ordering: https://films.familysearch.org/default.aspx If you are in Australia, New Zealand and/or the British Isles, there is a link on the left side that will take you here: https://film.familysearch.org/ Before ordering the films, you need to open an account with them. They only ask for your email address and a password.

    2. the one daughter may have married twice. also - they may have referred to this man as uncle so as to provide a "sponsor" to enter the country, or called him uncle out of respect for their elders - it was common in ireland for people to call elders aunt or uncle but would know they were not blood related. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue Clement" <sneirish@comcast.net> To: irl-carlow@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, 10 May, 2010 18:40:31 GMT +00:00 GMT Britain, Ireland, Portugal Subject: Re: [IRL-CARLOW] Nolan immigration to Thanks, Roger! Yes, I have all the info on Joseph and Thomas, brothers and sons of Michael and Catherine (McDonald) Aughney. Joseph returned from Wisc. to live with Thomas and married in Jersey City. Joe and his wife are buried in Holy Name Cemetery there. I was trying to make sure it was the same Joseph. So now, from what I can deduce... since their mother's maiden name was McDonald, and grandmother on the Aughney side was Cummins, there are no Nolans in the bunch. For Mike Nolan to be their Uncle, he would likely then have married a sister to their father, i.e. ___ Aughney, or to their mother, i.e. ___ McDonald. I only have one daughter for Michael Aughney, and she married Thomas Bulger. Unfortunately, the Tullow parish records for the time period when this woman would have been born are apparently gone, and not part of what is currently on microfilm, so there may be more children. I don't know any info on Catherine McDonald's family. So I guess I will have to do some research in Wisconsin! If I find anything I'll let you know. -----Original Message----- From: irl-carlow-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-carlow-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Roger Nowlan Sent: Monday, May 10, 2010 12:52 PM To: irl-carlow@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-CARLOW] Nolan immigration to Sue, At my website (http://nolanfamilies.org) in the Family Stories section I have a "story" relating to the Michael Nolan of Madison, Wisconsin, mentioned in your Email. 3. This info is for Roger Nowlan, but I thought I'd post here in case there is anyone else who might be interested. Roger, you can add this to your page about this particular Michael Nolan on your site. (He is not to be confused with another Michael Nolan with wife Ellen Scanlon who is not from Carlow.) Michael Nolan's wife was Eliza Dolan born probably in Pennsylvania USA. That piece of information, while good, doesn't help me one bit in trying to determine why Michael Nolan is "Uncle Mike" to the brothers Thomas and Joseph Aughney of Roscat, Tullow! which was my original query... Michael and Eliza are listed in the 1900 US Federal Census in Madison, Wisconsin, with Thomas H., Mary, Nellie and Elizabeth. The census indicates that Eliza had 5 children with 4 still living. They are in the 1905 Wisconsin State Census as follows: Michael Nolan, age 60, b. Ire Eliza Nolan, wife, age 48, b. Pennsylvania Harry Nolan, son, age 19, b. Wisconsin [Thomas Henry aka Henry T.] Mary, daughter, age 18, b. Wisconsin Nellie, daughter, age 16, b. Wisconsin Elizabeth, daughter, age 7, b. Wisconsin In the 1910 census, Michael, age 72 is a widower, and son Henry T. and daughters Nellie and Elizabeth are living at home with him. 2. Sue Clement
    3. Thanks, Roger!
