    1. [IRL-CARLOW] Surname Roll Call-FARLEY, FARRELLY
    2. Michelle Wilson
    3. Hi Decided I'd try again since I have sent these in twice since the current roll call began and none of them have shown up on the long list of daily roll calls that I have gotten. Seeking NICHOLAS FARRELLY (Farley) and wife MARY JORDAN and family in the Carlow area 1780-1820. Their first two sons BARTHOLOMEW and THOMAS were baptised RC and the name was Farrelly. Later Thomas and Mary used named Farley and those two sons also changed name to Farley and attended C of I. I know they had at least three more children but cannot locate any of them. Michelle W.

    2. Roger Nowlan
    3. Donna, I have seen the Broughan name spelled "Brogan" in early Quebec records. There was a Thomas Brogan married to a Margaret Nowlan in Quebec city in 1825. I also know that a James Broughan married a Diana Nolan in Bagenalstown on 15-0Nov-1831. Diana was the daughter of John Nowlan of Ballybrummel and Mary Conroy. James and Diana had a son named Edward that we know of. 1. [IRL-CARLOW] Roll Call: Hickey - Deegan
    2. Thomas Hickey
    3. My grandfather is James Joseph Hickey b. abt 1875 (World War I Draft Registration). His parents were Patrick Hickey and Anne Degan, and my grandfather was born in County Carlow (Certificate of Marriage to my grandmother). That's all I have supporting documents for. My grandfather likely arrived in the United States between 1910 and 1914; the 1920 US Census reflects 1910. Rootsweb: I did find some information on the birth of a Catherine Hickey in 1866 in the Parish of Clonegal whose parents were named Patrick Hickey and Anne Deegan; Catherine's residence was listed as Kilbrannish. LDS: Information on the births of James Hickey (birth date close but not a match to the date stated in the World War I Draft Registration) and John Hickey whose parents were named Patrick Hickey and Anne Deegan. Any information - suggestions most appreciated. Thanks, Tom Hickey

    3. Thank you Roger for the information and have printed it out and will save and hopefully one day soon I can find a connection to your Nowlans but you are much further back than I have been able to go.. I did notice the name of GORMAN as sponsor that you sent listed below and Bridget GORMAN m William HUDSON and also noticed you had a Michael GORMAN b 1900?-1973 s/o James GORMAN. You will see below my Philip GORMAN (1834-1910) was the s/o a James GORMAN.and Catherine McGRATH: It really gets confusing when they repeat the same first name so much. 1786 09 Nowlan, Honor parents: Nowlan, Thomas , Catherine sponsors: Gorman, David; Whelan, Anastasia Grange 1788 09 00 Hudson, William m. Rose Ann McNALLY *1824-1913) was the d/o Francis McNALLY and Sarah McCAFFERTY which I do not have any information on them other than possibly they lived in an area near Killeter,County Tyrone where their first 2 children: (Rose (1824-1913) and Hugh McNALLY (1827- 1920) m Sarah O'NEIL) were born and then moved to Tievemore,County Donegal,Ireland, in the town of Pettigo where the other 6 children (John ((1829-1916) m Ann MAHER and m 2nd Mary O'REILLY; Edward (1830-1913) m Ellen ?; Thomas (1834-1888) m Elizabeth McKENNY/KENNY m 2nd Catherine McCAFFERTY; Susan (1835-1901) m William P. McCAULEY; James (1841/44-1926) m Sarah CUNNINGHAM and Sarah McNALLY (1846-1898) m Edward BATES) were born. The McNALLY'S first went to NY, but where in NY and whether their parents were with them is unknown. I haven't been able to locate a ship's record showing the ship and when they came to America. They may have come over piecemeal and were dispersed throughout the records and perhaps hidden in this way. Being Irish immigrants, Roman Catholic and both families in the same town and working for the railroad, and going to the same Church it is easy to imagine how they met and were married. John McNALLY took a job in the 1850's in Chicago,IL for the Illinois Central Railroad and was eventually joined by his brothers and sisters at the railroad towns of Arcola, and Tolono, Illinois. Philip GORMAN (1834-1910) parents were James and Catherine McGRATH GORMAN b in Ireland but I do not know where or when and if they came to the USA. We seem to have some common christian/surnames in our family. I just haven't been able to make any connections in Ireland to my family. Which for me would be if I could find out who Catherine WHALEN/WHELEN/WHELAN's (1820/22-1896) parents and siblings were would bring me one more generation closer and where they were born in County Carlow,Ireland. Catherine WHALEN (1820/22-1896) and Edward MALEY,Sr. (1820-1892) had the following children: Michael (1850-1936); Francis "Frank" (1852-1919); Philip (1854-?); Mary (1857-1903): Edward, Jr. (1860-1893); Patrick 1862-1882); John Lawrence O'MALLEY (1867-1901); Anastasia (1870-1871) and James 1872-1929) MALEY. 2. I am looking for antecedents and descendants of the siblings of Patrick Comen, who occasionally used the name Coleman/Coalman in the USA. Patrick Coleman baptized (RC) 1 Jul 1848 in Hacketstown. Father was Edward Coleman, mother Elizabeth Mulhall, rendered as Mullnoure (?) in terrible handwriting on his death certificate in Baltimore, MD, USA. Siblings are Mary (b. 1835), Henry (b. 1837) another Henry (b. 1839), William (b. 1842), and Michael (b.1845). Michael is said to have come with Patrick to the USA about 1862, but went to Philadelphia while Patrick went to Baltimore. A Kathleen Coleman still lives in Hacketstown and may be a relative. 1. Re: [IRL-CARLOW] Surname Roll Call: HENNESSY/BROHAN/BROUGHAN
    2. Greetings all, It's been years since I've tried to go forward with these surnames in Carlow. Our Mary Hennessey created a needlework marked "Leighlin Bridge School - 1847 - aged 12". She brought it to New York where it survived and was framed in 1904 and today hangs in that original framing. We believe her mother was Mary Brohan/Broughan married to a James or John Hennessy and this elder Mary had two sisters at least - Ann and Catherine. They all eventually immigated to New York City where the younger Mary was married to Michael Connor. There is no mention of townland on the headstones for these people in New York but one death certificate indicates Carlow as the birthplace which, with the needlepoint, has been our only clues. There are very few instances of the name Hennessy being researched on this list and I wanted to put this message in the archive in case it would be found at a later date. This is a marvelous list with all the contributors and all who help others - I will continue to lurk and read and learn. Best wishes to all, Donna
