    3. Barb, In doing a search today at "worldvitalrecords.com" I just happened to hit upon a record of interest. It relates to a 1775 memorial for a James CORR, Ballytobin, Co. Kilkenny. The interesting part are the witnesses mentioned: Robert Lawler, Carlow, weaver Thomas Lawler, Carlow, weaver James Lawler, Leighlinbridge, land surveyor. 3. This was sent in by Carol Jacobs Norwood Roll Call: JACOB I'm looking for information on the JACOB family of County Carlow. I understand that my great-grandparents, John JACOB (born 1856, immigrated to Pennsylvania in early 1900's) and Elizabeth PIERCE Jacob (born 1860, immigrated to Pennsylvania in early 1900's) were caretakers at Oak Park Estate (Painestown). They had 12 children before they made their way to the United States. I'm interested in finding out about John JACOB's parents. From a marriage certificate I know that his father's name was also JOHN JACOB. I don't know his mother's first name or maiden name. John had a brother, Samuel, who also immigrated to Pennsylvania in the early 1900's. His other brother, George, remained in Ireland and was unmarried. Thanks, Carol Jacobs Norwood, Myerstown, PA Norwoodcj@aol.com

    3. Barb, I assume that you have picked up on the following early Lawlor baptisms from the RC Cathedral in Carlow town. These were recently posted to the Carlow website. They may be of interest: 1778 7 16 Charles of John and Rose Lawlor Micheal Lalor and Judy Hughes Tullow Street (RN: Tullow St. is in Carlow town and would be consistent with your family's oral tradition that "James was from Carlow town". Note also the alternate spelling "Lalor" which you may want to explore further.) 1779 7 11 Margaret of Michael and Elizabeth Lalor Mr Nowlan and ? With best regards, Roger Nowlan http://nolanfamilies.org P.S. My Canadian roots are also in New Brunswick - Buctouche area, NB, circa 1818. In 1784, the name "New Ireland" was almost adopted for New Brunswick (NB) and it was a very popular destination for many early Irish emigrants up until around 1830. Many moved on from NB to other destinations in Canada and the US. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barb Pattman" <bpattman@nbnet.nb.ca> To: <irl-carlow@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 07, 2010 7:23 PM Subject: [IRL-CARLOW] Roll call LAWLOR > Still looking for James Lawlor supposedly from Carlow town. 3. Still looking for James Lawlor supposedly from Carlow town. Born about 1788/89 Parents unknown, siblings unknown, parish unknown. Came to Saint John NB Canada about 1819. Was Roman Catholic . There is no evidence he arrived with any family members that I can find. I found this info a number of years ago on the LDS website and just tucked it away. There was a James Lawlor baptized on May 31, 1789, Roman Catholic, Killarney, Kerry, I know this isn't close to Carlow but who knows. Parents listed as Hugh Lawlor and Eliz Mahony. The date fits the era of my James. Although none of Jame's male children born here in Saint John were named Hugh, if following naming patterns. There was another son, Hugh baptized on Sept 20, 1787, same place, same parents. I was just wondering if maybe this family went to Carlow when the children were very young and this is where being from Carlow came from. Also wondering if someone else has claimed this family as their ancestor. I know it's a very big long shot but at this point I'll look at all possibilities, even the strangest. Throughout the generations here, we were always told that James was from Carlow town. The only clue we have is that when James died in April 1861, his obituary was suppose to be copied to the Carlow paper (don't know which one or if it even reached there). Barbie

    2. Paula T Miska
    3. Hi All I am still looking for information about John Flood (boat builder) in Graigue between 1819 and 1860.He also had land, house=, office and garden in Grange, Laois with a deed dated 1820. He married Catherine Fitzgerald although at times the name looks like Fitzpatrick in the Killishin. Unsure of the number of children he and Catherine had as the records only start at 1819. His son Edward Flood was a merchant in Graigue, married Eleanor (Ellen Coady) and they had eight children all baptized at the local church and found on the records of Killishin. John Coady Flood, 1851, Julia Flood 1852, Peter Flood 1854, Myles Flood 1857, Ellen Flood 1859, Edward Fitzgerald Flood 1862, Charles Flood 1865 and Catherine Flood 1868. I have information on John, Julia, Ellen and Edward. Nothing about the other four. Could they have died? If so, I haven't been able to find a death record. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. 2. Cathie Sherwood
    3. When I sent through my list of names (Neil/Neill/O'Neill. Lowery, May etc), I forgot to add in Coogan. Patrick Joseph Coogan, born around 1892, was the son of Thomas Coogan and Catherine (Kate) May. He too emigrated to Australia in 1914 with William May and Alice Aylward. Patrick married Violet, the daughter of Alice Lowery Boese, in 1922. I would like to find out more about Catherine May to see if she was the sister of John May who married my great-great aunt, Elizabeth Lowery. Thomas Coogan was a stone cutter. I have looked at the Coogan web site. Regards Cathie
