hi william it just so happens that i am currently working with a Jim Holden of carlow town and i will make enquiries for you. another one of my work collegues is a mrs murphy who is currently living in lacken and i believe both her and her husband are originally from there. have you tried the records in the cathedral in old loughlin as families tended in ireland to move between the rc and cofI religions! My great grandmother was BridgetHolden, the eldest child of John Holden and Mary Lynch of the townland of Lackan. The other children of the marriage (after Bridget) were in order of birth: Ellen (b.1833), Catherine (b.1836), Patrick (b.1838), Martin (b.1842), William (b. 1845), Mary (b.1849), and John (b. 1851). Given the gaps between some of the children there may have been others. Bridget Holden came to Sydney, Australia as an assisted immigrant in October 1854 and married Thomas Walsh from County Limerick in Maitland NSW in 1857. They had nine children - Mary, John, Thomas, Ellen, Margaret, William Patrick, Catherine, Bridget and James. It's probably your email server's virus firewalls are treating your emails as a virus and blocking them (Daft, I know). I use Sky, which is based on Google mail and the same thing happens to me. And the annoying think is, you can't change it - or at least you couldn't the last time I tried to. I'll now hit the Send Button but I don't know if appears on the list or not. Pat Molloy
I am still looking for the former address in Ireland for my GGGrandfather Isaiah (Tool) Tole and his brother James (Tool) Toole who came to Canada before 1828. I am also looking for any information on my GGGrandmother Ann Locay who was from Parish of Taghmon, County of Wexford who married William Mayo in the Anglican Chapel, Grosse Isle, Quebec, Canada August 22, 1838. Listers could also look at the irl-carlow mailing list archives and check to see if it is there, even if it doesn't show up on their own inbox. I think the messages may be getting through and appearing on the site , the problem may be that the Lister will not see their Posting in their own inbox when it appears on site, unless another replies to it !, could that be the problem ? Unfortunately I don't have an answer for the people who have sent emails to the Carlow Mailing List and they have not arrived. There is one possibility; if you use < irl-carlow-request@rootsweb.com > to send a message to the List it will not appear on the Mailing List as this link is only to be used for Subscribing or Unsubscribing to and from the Mailing List. The only email address you should be using is < irl-carlow@rootsweb.com > Now I also know that there are a few people who have used < irl-carlow@rootsweb.com > and their mail has still not come through to the List. I don't think people are doing anything wrong but I suspect that this might be a problem with the Rootsweb server which I hope they will sort out soon. If at first you don't succeed please Try, Try, and Try again! They are bound to come through eventually. I am sure the emails are getting through. Mine show up within minutes. Those that cannot see their own might try checking their email settings. Hi Roger, I did see the posting on the Carlow website. I keep going back to it to see if I have missed something. James was a cooper by trade here in Saint John, then a limeburner. I have the baptism records of all his children, born in Saint John and not one Lawlor is a sponsor so that is why I am assuming that he arrived here alone. I would love to know if his obituary ever made it to Carlow but that is another needle in a hay stack. James is on my Dad's side of the family. I also have Lawlor's on my Mom's side. They are not related that I can find. Mom's side didn't arrive until around 1830 supposedly from Queens Co., this is another brick wall.
