Andy I am reading the following book by Andrew Boyd. 'Fermenting Elements: The Labour Colleges inIreland 1924-1964. ( 1999) ISBN: 1902912004. On page 39 he writes :' Ida Boyd was a remarkable woman, a socialist pioneer in the city of Belfast. She joined the Belfast branch of the Independent Labour Party when she was a girl of sixteen and through time could include Keir Hardie, founder of the Labour Party, David Kirkwood, William Walker, Jimmy Maxtonand others of that generation of Socialists among her best and closest friends. Ida was an accomplished public speaker and at the Customs House Steps, the Hyde Park Corner of Belfast, she often had to deal with hecklers who thought it 'indecent' for a woman to be haranguing the public from a political platform. She stood in several Belfast city municipal elections as a Labour candidate but never got elected.' Any connection?
