You need to find his birth reference in the Index to Irish Civil Registration which is on microfilm at the LDS. These films can be hired dor a very small fee and you have 3 weeks to read them. The indexes are by event [birth], year and alphabetically by surname. This means reading every film for each year for all the B's. The later years are also in 1/4s so that means 4 films per year. BBUUTT first of all you must do all of your Australian research first. AUSTRALIA Do you have his arrival in Australia or did you know the state. After this you need to obtain his marriage certificate and most importantly of all if he came from NSW his death certificate. So you see we need to narrow this down.
