Could some one tell me if there is a web site to search for, or look at, wills. This would be in the Northern Ireland region and for the 1840's. Many thanks Ian McEachern Western Australia
You will have to write the records office in Dublin for this. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ian McEachern" <mceachern@wn.com.au> To: <irl-belfast-city@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2007 2:07 AM Subject: [BELFAST] wills > Could some one tell me if there is a web site to search for, or look at, > wills. If you go to; http://www.ancestryireland.com/database.php you can search for Wills - if you are a UHF member. You can obtain copies of many wills at PRONI, see; http://www.proni.gov.uk/ then http://www.proni.gov.uk/records/wills.htm It is not easy to access these without being in Belfast! Others may wish to offer ideas on how else to best tackle this issue. I've spent 3 days at PRONI and found it very hard work. Emerald Ancestors now have the Will Index(1858 to 1916) on their site. After finding the right person (if he or she made a will), for £4 they will send you the entry in the index as an attachment. Even these entries can be useful, as it gives the exact date of death and the names of the person to whom Probate was granted.
