However many folk moved to Belfast hence my interest in this list. Hello Lindsay, I was interested in your post to the list as I too am very interested in the name of Moore in the Ards. I was also interested to learn about the Dundonald in Scotland. My Moores and Bowdens had connections with Dundonald County Down, the Ards and Belfast. If you would like to check out my Moore connections please visit my site at the link below. Or I would love to hear from you if you think we might have a connection. Kind Regards. 3. Can another MOORE name pop up? My Belfast MOORE family is a great stumbling block. My great-grandfather, George William MOORE, was born (allegedly) in Belfast 19 November 1855, the son of William MOORE and Ellen McGRAIL. He is rumoured to have had seven brothers, although I've only been able to document one - William James, born in Larne and christened there on 23 January 1864. (James subsequently went to England with his wife, Mary Jame STEWART; his daughter, Margaret, was born there 13 June 1882. Margaret emigrated to Canada in 1902 and married 1) Charles VEREY in 1901 and Thomas CARTWRIGHT in 1916. The only child I know of is Charles VEREY born in 1901. George MOORE emigrated to Canada in 1886 and married Mary GRAHAM, daughter of Samuel GRAHAM and Margaret (possibly SLOAN) in Toronto Township on 22 November 1887; both listed as Presbyterians. The story gets a bit murky here - evidently George had another wife on the side and things got very confused. In any case, his children were Margaret Ellen (born 26 November 1888), James (born 14 June 1891), David born 17 April 1895, and my grandfather William John MOORE born 1 March 1898. There are reports of George MOORE receiving newspapers from relatives in Belfast in the early 1900s (the story of his attempt to get a mail-order bride actually made the Reader's Digest). If I hadn't been able to document the parentage of William James MOORE I would probably have thought that George MOORE had changed his name - he had a Dublin accent, I've been told (couldn't pronounce 'th', saying 'sh' instead. However, James' daughter was definitely his niece - she settled not too far away, and I had a heck of a time researching 'Cousin Margritte', until I found the parish entry in Larne for William James! Any possible connections gratefully received...
