Dear Sue, Just received this from a friend in Belfast. His name is Bill Broadhurst, and he and a friend recently wrote a book, "The Flaming Truth: A History of the Belfast Fire Brigade". Our friendship developed through correspondence between my husband & Bill, as Alan's Grandfather & Uncle were both members of the Fire Brigade. Bill has since met our son, Rob, who was in Belfast in 2004 for the World Championships of Irish Dance. Bill took him to "Headquarters", introduced him to the Chief of the Fire Brigade, made sure Rob saw the monument dedicated to the Firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty (His Gr. Uncle died during WW2 during the Blitz of Belfast), and had a pint of stout! I sent Bill your query, and this was his response: Hi Alan, I was in Belfast today and went to the newspapers to look up Margaret Stevenson who died in Feb 1912. Attached is a copy from the Belfast Telegraph of her death notice. Dundonald cemetary is just past Stormont buildings on the main road to Dundonald. Her husband William Stevenson was born in Glasgow 6th December 1875 and served with the Belfast fire brigade from 2nd August 1898 until he himself died from an internal haemorrhage on 13th July 1931. His address given upon joining the Fire Brigade was 22 White Street, but at this stage I don't know if that was Belfast or Glasgow (I suspect it was Belfast) His occupation upon joining was given as a Checker. It is unfortunate that the information we have doesn't give any real background to his wife Margaret. But I hope that this will give your wife something to go on with her friend Sue in Australia. Hope this helps! Kay Grady Frost > sos <[email protected]> wrote: > hi listers would SKS look up an obit for Margaret Stevenson, died Feb > 1912 - > residence, belfast fire brigade > thanks sue
