Brian, Kathleen, & Joe Commercial Travellers were not door to door peddlers. Rather they represented major products and commodities and often worked for substantial wholesale houses.Essentially they would travel around to retail stores or outlets and arrange for their merchandise to be sold and displayed in those retail establishments. They often had exclusive territories and more often than not would work on a commission basis. They formed their own trade association and had a benefit fund etc. as well as a constitution and links to other branches of similar type throughout the UK.
