    3. Hi Brenda and Gord, I have a marriage certificate for county Down in 1869. It gives the bride's father's name and surname and underneath the word deceased. In the next column it gives occupations for the fathers and they listed both as farmers, rather than leave the deceased one blank. So the short answer to your query is at least a yes sometimes, although there may be variability with respect to the practice in different areas. Good luck with your search!
