Hi List, I wonder if it is possible for SKS to check out a birth for me please in Belfast? This would be for a Thomas McALLISTER, son of Thomas McALLISTER and Jane, née MURPHY, he may have been born in 1901. I have one born in 1899 that is a very close possible, but my grandfather's age was 36 in 1937 when he died, the Thomas I have was born in Aug 1899, which would be the wrong age. I know that the age on the death cert may be wrong due to the sadness at the time and errors can be made ages can be assumed. Also the Thomas I have could have died very young and they had a second child named Thomas very soon afterwards! Does the GRONI use the same method for birth records searches as Joyce House in Dublin, ie you check the year books, you find an ancestor and they photocopy the entry for you? OR is it different? Kind regards, Michael McAllister
I have added a few hundred more names to the County Down births on my website, and the best of luck in your research. Raymond http://www.raymondscountydownwebsite.com

Hi Linda & Tony, I have searched the 1901 Belfast Street Directory on my web site. I am sorry to say that i could not find any mention of Rathdrum Street. I used the search engine on my site and the only mention of Rathdrum was in County Wicklow. It may be that the street did not exist in 1901. Sorry I cannot help on this occasion. Hi Linda and Tony: I have checked the recent street directory of Belfast - and there is a Rathdrum Street off the Lisburn Road. It is part of Belfast now but may have been just outside back in 1925. The samll areas it mentions are Windsor and Andersontown. Don't know if that helps at all. This website has several directories on it and some looksups they may be able to help. http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/Links.htm Brenda Anderson Brampton, Ontario Jean McCarthy wrote: >Hi Linda & Tony, > >I have searched the 1901 Belfast Street Directory on my web site. Hi List, I remember some time ago, a mail concerning the transcribing/name indexing of the two Irish censuses, and project between the Irish Archives/Records Office and the Canadian Government. Does anyone know of an update of how they are progressing please? Kind regards, Michael McAllister <still looking for a 1-2-year-old granddad Thomas McALLISTER in the censuses for Belfast!>
Would like to know how to locate the grave of Ethel May CHRISTY who died 4 Aug 1939 aged 30 years. She lived in Vandyck Gardens, off Whitewell Rd, Belfast and was a Methodist. Where would the likely burial place be?Thanks, Bronwyn

Johnston family in Belfast I am looking for any information I can find on my great great grandparents- Hugh Johnston and Mary Cairns (Carrins, Carins, Kerns etc). Hugh Johnston was born about 1844 in Belfast ( I think) and Mary Cairns was born 4 July 1844 also in Belfast. Mary's father's name was James Cairns. Mary and Hugh married about 1866 and emigrated to Canada around 1875-76. Of their nine children, two are known to have been born in Ireland-William John born about 1868 and Thomas James born about 1870. Two others may have been born in Ireland- Isabella born 1 Aug 1874 and Agnes b 22 Oct. 1875. This is the extent of my knowledge of this family. I would appreciate any help or suggestions in finding more about this family. Thank you so much for your help. It is greatly appreciated Jean in Virginia USA djoxley@rbnet.com
This one fascinates me. The Rev Dr James Morgan, then minister at Fisherwick Belfast, was the son of Thomas Morgan of Cloghog, Derryloran (Cookstown) parish. I suspect, but have no proof, that William Morgan may have been his brother. After over 10 years I'm still trying to prove that this Morgan family is not related to mine. Baptisms and marriages in Belfast were at Fisherwick. My g.g.grandfather was a Thomas Morgan, marriage and baptismal details unknown. Anyone else interested in this family? DIED December 21, in Upper Arthur-street, Miss Charlotte Knowles, daughter of James Knowles, Esq. and sister of James Sheridan Knowles, Esq. This deeply lamented Christian lady has been called to her rest from protracted illness which she endured with the most patient resignation. During many years she walked in close communion wit God, enjoying much of the Divine presence. Possessed of the ele....... views of gospel truth, and desiring fully to glorify and exalt her Almighty Saviour, her life was unreservedly devoted to his service. Her acquaintance with his Word was most intimate - her reliance on its promises unbounded - her zeal untiring - her delight was to know and do the will of God. For the last ten years she was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Holywood, where her Christian labours, especially among the young, were unceasing and greatly blessed. As she lived so she died, rejoicing in hope, and triumphant in the prospect of a glorious eternity. Her memory will long be cherished by the friends and relations who admired and loved her for her worth, and who are now called on to mourn for her death. December 26, at Holywood House, James Orr, Esq. aged 60 years. December 30, at 7o'clock, a.m. Mrs Samuel M'Crea, of Collinsward, near Belfast, of a few hours illness. December 24, at Belfast, George Darling, at the age of 75 years; he was one of the many brave fellows who sailed with Nelson, and who surved their country at Trafalgar, & c. December 17, at Ballylonghan, near Comber, after a long and painful illness, which she bore with the firmness, hope, and resignation of a Christian, Mr James Dugan, aged 67 years. The character which he maintained through life as a kind neighbour, a sincere friend, an affectionate parent, and an honest man, shall long survive in the memories of all who knew him. December 21, at Seaforde, aged 45 years, Rev. Robert M'Cormick, having been 13 years Minister of the Seceding(?) Congregation of that place, during which time he endeavoured to discharge diligently, yet unostentatiously, the labourious duties of the Ministerial profession. He was a kind friend, a most affectionate husband, and a tender and indulgent parent. He has left a sorrowing widow and orphan child, who now mourn his loss. December 25, at Omagh, Margaret, youngest daughter of Mr James Love. December 20, at Killen, near Castlederg, Margaret, wife of Mr. Robert Caldwell, aged 39 years. December 25, in his chambers in Trinity College, of fever, in the 17th year of his age, Louis Alexander, fourth son of Thomas Wm. Filgate, of Arthurstown, County Louth, Esq. December 20, Captain the Hon. William Waldegrave, of the Royal Navy, second son of the late, and brother of the present Lord Radstock. December 23, in London, Lieut.-General Charles Comer, H.E.I. Company's service, aged 82. DEATH OF THE ARCHBISHOP OF CASHEL. - The Most Rev. On the death of the late Dr. Burke, Bishop of Waterford that See became lapsed, and the Administration of the affairs of the Diocese was entrusted to Dr. Laurence, who changed his residence from Cashel to the Palace at Waterford. The Archbishopric of Cashel is now extinct. The new Prelate will be Bishop of Cashel, Emly, Waterford and Lismore. Dr. Laurence was a very distinguished scholar. His Grace had been the private tutor of Sir Robert Peel, through whose influence he obtained the See of Cashel. If someone may be visiting PRONI, may I ask please if he or she could do a microfilm lookup for a specific parish, event and date? There is no urgency and I would be grateful for the result at any time. Never having been able to visit PRONI, I cannot tell how long this lookup should take but I hope it would not take long enough to be an inconvenience. Also please let the list know to avoid duplication. The source I have is a patron contribution to the IGI so I can only hope that it is correct and that the parish record may show even more information. The details from this source are: Armagh - Drumcree - Marriage - 18 OCT 1839 - John KENNEDY to Mary BRADLEY. Microfilm ref no: MIC/1/21, 42-43. If this is the couple that I am looking for, they had a daughter born nearly 12 years later in Australia, in 1851, baptised and later married in the Church of Engalnd, but I have not been able to identify their immigration arrival - there is no shortage of John and Mary Kennedys. If I were further able to learn from the baptismal records that they had children before depating, that would either indicate when they emigrated or, if beyond 1851, would unfortunately rule out this couple. Many thanks Bill Webster Sydney
