Robert, The LDS have a street index with which you can find the film(s) a particular street is on. The index lists the streets in alphabetical order in one column and the film(s) on which returns from that street are located in different columns for the 1901 and 1911. Enumeration districts are detailed in separate columns. With this, you can order the films and get the information you need without having to wait for the information. If you need additional assistance, send me a note off-list. Andy
Hi Glen, I have searched all of the 1901 census for Belfast. (over a long period of time) All Military and police barracks census entries only give initials, for security reasons I expect. The only one that I found that might be what you are looking for is listed as a military or police barracks. The film number is below. Again initials only are given. * 0801742 01 089219 * I am sorry that I cannot be of more help to you at this time. Thank you very much Jean If I read this right the LDS film is 0801742 which covers the Dock Ward area where Victoria Barracks was located. Now for the other numbers would you explain them. Hi Listers Would anyone know what film Victoria Barracks people are shown on. I have a family member in 1899 that was a soldier at Victoria Barracks when his wife gave birth to a child there. He was still a soldier in 1904 when his wife gave birth again. This time she had the child at 37 Rosebank St. his parents address. Glen Alderson Calgary Alberta
Would there have been more than one institution or school for the deaf and dumb in Belfast shortly before 1900? My late grandfather worked there as a young teen-ager before coming to Canada. He lived in Montreal, Quebec and never learned to speak French. He always remembered, though, quite a bit of the sign language he learned while working at the school. John Kennedy > 1. Hello, I wonder if anyone has heard of the area(?) called "Stonbridg". It was recorded in the book "Historic Memorials of the First Presbyterian Church Belfast" (thanks to Edward Connolly, 'Eddies Book Extract'). 'Stonbridg' appears to be an area in/near Belfast where some people from the congregation lived in c1720-36. I have a modern map of Belfast but there is no reference to it. Any help in this regard will be very much appreciated. Thanks. Alice -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message. Hi All Just a quick note to let those interested that the site has been updated. Among the updates is a transcription of a book called "Historic Memorials of the First Presbyterian Church of Belfast" published in 1887 which contains not only a history of the congregation etc but early baptisms (1757-90) and funerals (1712-36) and various lists of members etc. Eddie News Extracts: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~econnolly/ My Genealogy: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/e.connolly/ ___________________________________________________________ Want ideas for reducing your carbon footprint? Hi Michael I think that diagnosis would depend on the degree of deafness and a lot of other variables. Children did not all go to institutions, my mother's cousin who was born in the 1920s did not but she did attend a school for deaf children. Perhaps you could research through Google and find some more about the history of deafness and its treatment. Hi Michael, I have looked through the records for the deaf & dumb institute on my web site for the 1901 census. The youngest inmate was 7 years old. On another page for the blind institute and where the inmates could also be deaf there was a child aged 5. I hope this might help with your question. John, I'm searching for the family of Jane Wilson, born in 1800. She married Robert Johnson, date unknown. Their religion was Church of Ireland. They had three children before emigrating to Ontario, Canada in 1823-1824. That's all I've got. The time period matches yours. Do you have any information that might establish a connection? I suppose he could have been "down the pub" on Census night? Or visiting someone else and is on their record (very little chance of tracing that)?? I see Helena is in the 1911 census but living in another house (probably as lodger) so her parents might be dead by then (unusual for children to leave the family home in those years unless this happened). I'm afraid it's another brick wall which you have to find your way round. Got lots of them myself. I will try and find out if the site intends to transcribe further documents and if so, will notify the list.
