RE: PINKERTON-Elizabeth MENARY marriage. The religion would be Presbyterian; the time frame is likely around the early 1900s; the townland would be Armabreague, Parish of Lisnadill, Co. Armagh. Looking for Isabella GALLACHER (bc. 1820) who married about 1837 to Charles BROWN . They had at least three children: Elizabeth (bc.1838), Mary (b.1840) Catherine (bc. 1843. Our supposition is the Charles died about 1843/47. Elizabeth and the children were found on the 1851 census living in Bonhill, Dumbartonshire We have established that Isabella remarried late in 1851 to John SWEENEY (widower, b.c. 1826, also IRL). John was the son of Catherine Sweeney. John and Isabella had children Phillip, William, Agnes. We suspect Isabella died about 1857 in Bonhill. Brian

Thank you Admin for a warm welcome to this list. My interest in my wife's grandfather James Edmund STEWART born about 1880 in Belfast area Father James Mother Mary Apprenticeship at Harland and Wolfe as Shipwright. Married before 1907 Matilda (Jean) COLLINS Royal Navy WWI. I think he was in the RN Reserve. He is not listed as a regular in the British National Archives (on-line). I know that a number of dockyard tradesmen enlisted in the RNR before WWI and I suspect he was one of them. I saw photos of him as an Artisan in Petty Officers uniform and another in uniform as an Artificer. Family story is that he was a Chief Shipwright. That is consistent with the uniforms. He may also have served in the RAN but I can find no records at AWM or National Archives in Canberra. His wife and two daughters travelled to Australia in the Shropshire in Aug 1914. I understand he planned to go with them but obviously the war intervened. He came to Australia post WWI. He died Avalon Sydney NSW in 1960. Ring any bells? Peter Ferguson NSW Australia

Edward, Great find! No kidding about the search criteria. I tried "McCormick, Edward" and got no hits. I tried "Edward McCormick" as well as "McCormick Edward" and got the same result. "McCormick" however resulted in 1351 hits, many of which are "McCormick, Edward" Here's a tip: the comma following the surname is included as part of the surname, so, using the above example where "McCormick, Edward" displays no hits, "McCormick, Edward," results in 1041 hits!
