Hi List, could sks please throw some light on the subject line for me? I have my grandfather, Thomas McAllister, possibly placed in Dublin in 1918 as a leaving date from the Deaf Institute in Cabra(gh) and an address given as Infirmary Union, Belfast! Anyone any ideas as to what this may imply please? He would be about 18 years of age by this time, come six years later he is married in Dublin! Kind regards, Michael McAllister
Could some one give me the correct address for this Cemetery please ? Regards from Valerie in sunny Sydney. Researching: BEDDY, CULLODEN, DYAS and ROWAN in Belfast, Dublin, Wicklow & Wexford
I found the names of whom I think are relatives in the belfast 1900 Directory they wer both listed as Tailors had addresses at 24 and 26 Ton Street. I looked for that address in a current street directory and couldn't find it. I was wondering if someone could look up a street directory for 1900 and advise were Ton Street is located. I would have expected that my relatives would be in the Shankill area. Regards Mike from Adelaide in sunny South Australia Interested in McIlwain(e), Cranston, Goode, Brown, Spence

Dear Mike, Ton Street is (was) in Falls Ward, between Slate Street and Marchioness Street, off Cullingtree Road, very near the City Centre. I found it on Old Ordnance Survey Map of Central Belfast 1931 purchased from www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk I expect it disappeared during or just after WW2. Hi there, I am helping someone to research their family history in Belfast and was wondering if anyone else out there has any links to the LEGGETT family. The earliest ancestor we have is a William Robert LEGGETT, a master butcher born in Belfast probably around 1880-1900. There is also thoughts that the surname may have started life as LIGGETT? Look forward to hearing from anyone with links to this surname. All the best, Anne.
Look forward to that. Regards from Valerie in sunny Sydney. Nicole Firstly could I kindly suggest that you always include part of the original message as most of us " out there " receive 100 to 150 messages a day so that makes it hard to remember what the previous information contained. I don't think I remember Benjamin having a middle name in the previous message but I could be wrong. IRELAND Civil Registration did not commence until 1864. You need to find his birth reference in the Index to Irish Civil Registration which is on microfilm at the LDS. These films can be hired dor a very small fee and you have 3 weeks to read them. The indexes are by event [birth], year and alphabetically by surname. This means reading every film for each year for all the B's. The later years are also in 1/4s so that means 4 films per year. BBUUTT first of all you must do all of your Australian research first. AUSTRALIA Do you have his arrival in Australia or did you know the state. After this you need to obtain his marriage certificate and most importantly of all if he came from NSW his death certificate. So you see we need to narrow this down. Please get back to me with your answers. Regards from Valerie in sunny Sydney. I have just posted 9 more annotated transcriptions of deeds with dozens of names of people mentioned - most of them connected to the linen industry in one way or another and also to the OLIVER family of Co. Armagh. Many of the people that are mentioned are from Co. Tyrone, Co. Armagh & Co. Monaghan - but there are also names of people from Belfast, Dublin, Co. Down and elsewhere. Have a look at http://www.thesilverbowl.com/misc/whatsnew.htm Also, please note that The Silver Bowl website has a new address (see address beneath in the signature line). Please change any links, bookmarks or shortcuts that you may have to this site. Also, as always, if you note errors - please help me out by bringing them to my attention so I can fix them. I have also recently updated the family tree information which can be accessed by the link beneath. I'll keep plugging along. Expect more records to be posted in the next week or so.
