Brian The letter looks like a L, a closer look with a glass one can see that it could be a T. You state that you have not heard of Lon Street so it must be Ton. A note has been put in the file and this mistake wi ll not be made in the future. Thanks Bill.
Church Photos on my web site at the link below. Alternatively, type: Jean McCarthy into the GOOGLE search engine for a direct link. I have added eighteen more photographs to the church photos pages on my web site. These have been kindly donated by Roy in the UK, Mary in USA, Christine in Vancouver and Liam in the UK. The new photos are of Ballybay Presbyterian Church, St Patrick’s Parish Church Ballymena, Conner Presbyterian Church, Kells Presbyterian Church, St Saviour’s Parish Church Antrim, Presbyterian Non Subscribing Church Dromore County Down, Christ Church C of I Kilmore, Church of Ireland Parish of Down and Hollymount, St. Baithens RC Church St Johnston County Donegal, R. C. Parish Church Fahan (St Mura's) County Donegal, and St Mary's R. C. Parish Church in Belfast. Very many sincere thanks to Roy, Mary, Christine and Liam who very kindly shared these lovely photos with us all. I have got quite a few more church photos that our fellow listers have kindly sent to me. I would hope to get these onto my web site over the weekend. I think it is wonderful to be able to perhaps see the photos of the church where our ancestors were baptised, married or buried. Particularly if it allows some folks to view the photos who may never get to Ireland to see them in reality. Kindest Regards. Jean McCarthy nee Moore. Staffordshire, England. Hello Louis, Ship St. was on the North end of Sailortown. Here is a map: http://www.sailortownbelfast.org/streets.htm You can also find a couple of maps of the Sailortown area on Jean McCarthy's web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36/index2.html Look for Belfast Maps on the left. Ship St. is about where York St. turns to the left and becomes York Rd or Carrickfergus Rd. Andy Airriess

Hello Can I respectfully point out that More on Troon. http://members.lycos.co.uk/troonexiles/troonexilesrecords.htm is nothing to do with Troon in Scotland, it is Troon in Cornwall nearly 600 miles away! My father was born in Troon and I have lots of County Down connections with Troon/Ards but also Belfast comes in. I am aware of many other connections too. Names like Young, Baillie, Mahood, Palmer, Hughes, McCappin, Malone, Milligan, Cassidy. I have a number of Moores in the Ards, but not aware of any in Troon yet, but more connections keep creeping out of the woodwork! My Website www.ladyisle.com deals with Troon and I can usually answer many questions either directly or through my contacts. [email protected] family history society is a useful body too. Brian, Kathleen, & Joe Commercial Travellers were not door to door peddlers. Rather they represented major products and commodities and often worked for substantial wholesale houses.Essentially they would travel around to retail stores or outlets and arrange for their merchandise to be sold and displayed in those retail establishments. They often had exclusive territories and more often than not would work on a commission basis. They formed their own trade association and had a benefit fund etc. as well as a constitution and links to other branches of similar type throughout the UK. Hello List I have been looking at the 1871 census for Troon, Film number 0103960. Brian/Kathleen, I believe a commercial traveller was a "door-to-door" salesman, as we would refer to it . My great grandfather was a commercial traveller (Robert MCKINSTRY) in Belfast, according to my grandmother's birth certificate in 1899 (they lived on Chobham Street) and the ship manifest to Phila in 1922. I am guessing that was a tough way to make a living! Joe Hunter

Belfast Listers: I had an interest as my grandfather, James VALENTINE was secretary of the Belfast Branch of this organization in 1911. I was hoping to find out where the old records of this United Kingdom Commercial Travellers Association, Belfast Branch might be housed today. Membership lists would be great as no less than three of my ancestors were commercial travellers. Some records are on deposit at the Modern Records Office, Warwick University, but not those of the Belfast Branch. If anyone can help, please let me know. Thank you Brian for the news reference for 1920. The organization, I believe lasted late into the 1970s so I am hoping someone may know where the records were deposited. Dear Glen I am taking the liberty of following up on someone mail you corresponded with. I don't know if you are doing lookups if you are I would appreciate if you ever come across Braniff from Portaferry Co Down.
