Dear Jean Many thanks for your prompt reply to me BRANIFF ancestors ,I will try your web site Have a good day, Ellen{Braniff]De Souter
Dear Ellen, Thank you for your e-mails. It was the 1901 census that I gave details for not the 1910 census. There is not a 1910 census. The next census after 1901 is 1911. I am sorry but I cannot recall the name Braniff during the eight years of searching the 1901 census. If I did find any then they would be on my website. Try using my site search engine for a quick way of searching for your name of Braniff. My search engine is at the top of the list of links to the various pages. You will see this on the left hand side of the page immediately after you enter the site. I am sorry that I cannot be of more help to you at this time. Good luck with your research. Kind Regards. Jean Staffordshire England
Thanks Sharon. I had thought about the Old Rectory but it seems so far out. I'm spending too much time looking for accommodation so I booked the travelodge in the city centre. Who know? Various comments on this list have helped me get an idea about the Belfast area-thanks. Chris, In fact, we found supermarket a wonderful option, decently priced tasty food (cold, of course, but that is OK for sandwiches and stuff.) We were also obliged to eat American (KFC and Subway) for two of the 5 nights. The only problem with that, was that I hate to eat American when I'm in Europe. ;) Part of my fun of the trip is eating different stuff. If I eat at American chains, it takes away from the whole experience a bit. I assume I was looking in the wrong places. I'll do better next time I visit. Things do close early there though. When I was in England, I had no problems finding eateries, even when we were out in the wilds of Cornwall. Gosh, better take food parcels! Seriously, as visitors from England, my cousin and I had no difficulty finding food in Belfast city centre, or in Ulster generally. MacDonald's are not unknown and there are some really nice restaurants - try down the old Dublin Road towards the University for a wide choice just out of the centre. (You don't have to be under 25.) Curiously, Ulster folk use supermarkets, so if all else fails you should be able to find a sandwich - or even make your own! john burns <[email protected]> wrote: Thanks Bonz. I've been doing more reading and it sounds like I should stay in the Golden Mile area-maybe Helga House? John John When I'm in Belfast I try and book into The Old Rectory B.& B, 148 Malone Road, e-mail [email protected], which I find is reasonably priced, excellent breakfast and very nice people. That's within walking distance of PRONI ( just round the corner ) and not far from the city centre ( I usually walk there, takes about 20 mins) There's plenty of places in the city serving food, nearly all pubs cater, some till late in the evening and there's plenty of cafe's, there is a nice one thats open fairly late in Bridge St, Blinkers, I think it's called, all reasonably priced, so you didn't go hungry. If you find that you have time on your hands visit the Linenhall Library very interesting. Whatever you do enjoy your selve. Hi, we stayed at Days Inn and found it was very well placed, about 100 metres via a back pathway to the bus and train station, and walking distance from the City Centre. We went to PRONI and GRONI very easily. Staff were very helpful, when I said the room was cold a heater was delivered before I could get into the lift and arrive back at my room. food was reasonably priced and a wheat free meal produced with no problems at all. Very nice Indian restaurant around the corner. Thanks Denise. Maybe I shouldn't be so cheap and just stay at Days. I'm afraid of getting stuck at some B & B in the middle on nowhere for when I have some down time and just want to wander around and look at things. I have a feeling I know what GRONI is. I can't vouch for that B and B (and I didn't like the one at which I stayed so won't recommend it), but if you're only half a mile from the city center, you could stay in that B&B, walk into town and bus down to PRONI. It's very easy, Mom and I used the bus system when we were there last week. Food in Belfast is rather hard to find, at least we had problems. If you go all day to PRONI, they have their own canteen/cafeteria, and their food is both reasonably priced and absolutely scrumptious. Stop in the Tourist Welcome Center in the city center and they'll have bus schedules. Mostly though, the bus down Lisburn road runs about every 7-15 minutes and it's a moderate but lovely hike uphill from the bus stop to PRONI. John, The problem might be with a Java plugin that is not working. I suggest first off that you install Firefox if you do not already have it installed. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/start/ It is simply the best browser around, and is more secure than Internet Explorer besides being faster. Also, when a plugin needs updating or installing, it is much easier to do so; you get an on-screen message with a link to the needed plugin. Andy Airriess

I'll be making a genealogical trip to Belfast next month. I've never been there before and am puzzled as to where to stay. I'll be spending some time at PRONI but I don't know if that would be a good part of the city to stay in or would closer to the city centre be better? I'm looking for a moderately priced hotel or bed and breakfast. The moderately priced hotels that I've found in the city centre like Days Inn or Jury's start at about 70 pounds-which seems a lot to me. Does anyone have any suggestions? John
