Hi Brenda and Gord, I have a marriage certificate for county Down in 1869. It gives the bride's father's name and surname and underneath the word deceased. In the next column it gives occupations for the fathers and they listed both as farmers, rather than leave the deceased one blank. So the short answer to your query is at least a yes sometimes, although there may be variability with respect to the practice in different areas. Good luck with your search! Dear Maureen, I was Happy to hear from you I feel that someone is paying attention to me. I'm sorry I can't recall Murray and Burns, I will be speaking to my brother soon and I will see if he remembers thoes names. I will be in touch with you as soon as I speak to him. Hope I will be able to help you ; ELLEN{BRANIFF}DE SOUTER
I have one that has "deceased" on it for the father; don't know abut the English. Andy
Does anyone on the list have a Margaret, daughter of James Adams and Margaret Swan born 27 June, 1886? If so, please contact me, I have a copy of the Baptism record from St. Anne's. Andy Airriess
Gentle Listers, In addition to my earlier post about those who served and those who died from St. Paul's, I also have a photo of the same category of people from St. Anne's. The St. Anne's roll is easier to read. Please contact me off list if you want a copy. Andy
Howdy all, Thanks to a generous person (and I might say a rather dashing person as well) I was able to go St. Paul's on York Rd. and took a picture of the Roll or Honour showing those from the church who served and those who died in WWI. Combined with a visit to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site (http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx) it just might help you figure out what happened to some of those elusive ancestors. Some of the names are hard to read; those whose last names appear early in the alphabet display better. If you would like a copy of the photo let me know off list. It is a rather LARGE photo (4.5MB) and does not shrink well enough to read the names. I also have a photo of memorial commemorating the dead of WWI and a different one for WWII if you would like those too. The list of names are shorter thus the images will shrink better and be smaller for emailing. When I have the time I'll transcribe the names. For now, this is what you get. Andy Airriess McCormick, Boyd, Shaw, Muckle, Ireland, McCartney and more I don't know of yet in Belfast and Environs. I love Belfast and environs even more after visiting. They are populated with the most generous, open, warm people I have ever met. Special thanks to that one guy and those two ladies. Thanks also to that other guy and lady. For reasons of privacy, they choose to remain cloaked in mystery. Rest assured, my wife and I will never, ever forget you and your kindness.
Hello Ellen, I do hope you dont mind me getting in touch, but as you are a Belfast woman you will know how we Belfast ones love a chat.......I was going through my e-mails this morn and came across yours, when I saw Unity St., I jumped in to ask, would you know, in your Mother's time, any Murrays.....I am researching Murray and Burns....my Murrays moved around and were in North Queen St. Unity St, Waterloo St. and heaven only knows where else........the Campbells were really Cutty, and changed to Campbell if you follow my drift, were New Lodge Road.....have you been back to Belfast in the last few years, if you care to reply I would be so pleased to hear from you......Maureen

I've decided on a new format for my Heads of Household indices - some of these streets are already on my web site under the streets beginning with A, B, or C and I apologise for that. I have indexed the names of the Heads of Household as per the enumerator sheets (which are quite often incorrect on first names and spellings of surnames and more) for the following streets in Belfast. These streets are all in County Antrim. You will find the name index at the URL listed below the street names - I do not have the LDS film number/s for this area - or, a PRONI ref.. The DED film ref I give is as per the National Archives in Dublin Jane Alton street - Antrim street - Broadbent - California street - Carrickhill - Carrickhill Court - Carrickhill Place - Cavour - Clifton street - Concord street - Dagmar - Denmark - Hanover - Hartley - Kildare Street Old Lodge Road - Park street - Stanhope street - Sydney street - Trinity street - Tyrone street - Unity street - Upton street - Wall street http://www.from-ireland.net/censabstracts/ant/1901/belfast2.htm
