Andy: There is still hope for me. I have put my information on the web in so many places sometime I think others do not want to read it again. If it is not too much I would like very much to have a copy of the plaque from St. Ann's. Joseph Holland married Mary Ann Anderson there 30 Oct 1857. They married again in St. Patrick's on the same day. This tells me that one was a RC. Have been trying for years to get a certificate from St. Pat's and have yet to receive. Thanks for sharing. It renews my enthusiasm just to read about your connection. One day mine will come. I have two nephews that live in Germany that I have not seen since a divorce in 1970. After my husband, their uncle, died in 1999 with Alzheimer's I traced them to send them family history. Keep thinking that one day I am going to turn on my computer and one of them will just appear in my email. Shirley [email protected]
Andy, There is serendipity in genealogy. Congratulations! Re: My Finding a Cousin. This is how it came about. An ancestor of hers, William Boyd, and a ancestor of mine, William J. Boyd, were cousins. During WWI, they enlisted. They must have gone together to sign up because their service numbers are consecutive. They were killed one day apart. This information came from Margaret. Both are on the memorial plaque that hangs on the wall at St. Paul's church in Belfast. While I was there I took a picture of the plaque and offered pictures of the plaque and a similar one at St. Anne's on this list (still available for those who would like one). She asked for a copy and the rest is history. Her info met my info and the connection was made. While I was taking pictures of the plaques my wife was kind of shaking her head, but I explained how it was not just for me, but others who could not get there might like it too. Thus is the importance of sharing your research with as many as possible. Not just offering, but actively soliciting contact. It is like the difference between fishing with a hook and with a net (pun not intentional). My wife does not really understand because her family is fairly well researched, and goes back to France in 1600. Being born into a Catholic family, there are terrific records available. Ireland is a whole different kettle of fish and we all need all the help we can get. It was an unbelievable blessing to be able to get to Ireland in general and Belfast specifically. When we are given gifts, it is proper to say "thank you." Disseminating what we were able to find is just another way to say that. Andy Airriess
Sadly, no, she is a Boyd. Andy
Dear Andy, Hear hear. I have had so much fun sharing and connecting as a result of the sharing - I couldn't begin to describe it. The more I share, the more I learn. Although my web site takes an indecent amount of time, the rewards have been great. And who knows, if I find a BOYD in a tree, it may be your BOYD (I think to catch this far-stretched pun one might need a Bostonian accent which I can only pretend at). Andy: I have been searching for a relative in Belfast since 1977. So there must be hope that this will happen for me also. Great going Shirley Holland
Way to go Andy, if you cannot find anymore, call me. My rellies were actually born in that cabbage patch just outside Belfast so perhaps we too can be related. I am at this point willing to accept any person from Belfast and call it even :-) Jackie Andy Airriess wrote: > Listers, > > After years and years, I've finally met the person of my dreams. Listers, After years and years, I've finally met the person of my dreams. Her name is Margaret and she is a fellow Belfast lister. We have quite a budding relationship. I've been dreaming, longing for this moment for the last 6 years. We just met, yet it feels like we've always been connected somehow. . since 1820 anyway. You see, she's my FOURTH COUSIN! Are there are any ELECTORAL ROLLS available to search for the Belfast area, for the epoch 1900-1921, please? Or, were these perhaps destroyed as well. I thank you for information for his query. Marina Christchurch New Zealand
Hi List, could I beg SKSs that when they are looking/trawling through the 1901 and 1911 censuses, try and keep a watchful eye for my grandfather, Thomas Anthony McALLISTER(/variations). Thomas was born deaf and dumb/mute approx 1899, so would be approx one/2 on the 1901 census and approx 11/12 on the 1911. I have no idea whatsoever of his address or even area of Belfast. I also understand also that there is no name index to teh censuses at all, this is the reason for the request. If people are trawling through, just try and keep an eye out for him please. Kindest regards Mick McAllister
Hello List Advice please, if I order a film of the birth indexes for Ireland, it gives the year, name of child and Surname, but not the maiden name of the Mother,, So how do I confirm which birth I am looking for, as the surname is Moore, equivalent to the name Smith, not saying it is common, just popular. If I visit Belfast, is there a record book that I may look at myself, so that I can verify which births are the children of my Great-Grandparents before I order a certificate. I believe there were at least eight, trying to verify does not seem that easy. Have yet to find this family in the 1901 census Alexander Moore son of Patrick Moore and Elizabeth McCaughan daughter of William John McCaughan married 10th November 1875 St Anne's Belfast. Children Annie Moore born circa 1878/79 my Grandmother, cannot find this lady, so many Annies' Alan born 30 December 1879. a huge gap between these dates, there must have been more? Fred born 2 February 1887 Margaret born 8.January 1889 Alexander born 6 June 1891 Sarah Daisy 5 March 1893 Minnie Moore 3 March 1895 Howard ???????? Any thoughts, is anyone familiar with these names?
