I recently returned from a visit to my father in Pennsylvania and retreived much of the genealogy that my mother had done before passing 2 years ago. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Richardson MOORE b. 3-7-1887 in County Tyrone, Ireland. She married Robert Thomas Samuel WITHERS b. 1-24-1866 Dundonald, Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland on 3-24-1887. Elizabeth (MOORE) Withers died 1-23-1930 in New Castle, PA. I have a substantial amount of information on this family....are you a cousin??? My husband also has MCALLISTER in his family history. I would have to look up that information, though I have researched quite a bit of that line, also. Hoping we can make a connection.... Sue (ELLISON) Bennett

    3. I wish you luck. I'm looking for an Elizabeth Mulholland who married Richard about 1849 in Antrim. They had a son, James Webb about 1850. James emmigrated to Glasgow, Scotland and married Elizabeth McKenzie in 1872. I found an Elizabeth Mulholland who could fit the bill in the Griffiths Valuation leasing at "1-3 Norfolk St., Edenderry, Smithfield Ward, Shankill Antrim" in 1848. I found a Richard Webb in the same issue at "50 Norfolk St., Borough Belfast, Shankill, Antrim." I hope this helps and please keep in touch when you find anything further. I've almost given up on that branch of my family. 3. Marina, I am not sure about electoral rolls, but during my own searches of local papers, I have came across many newpaper items dealing with Revision Courts. I gather these were courts where people opposed other peoples right to vote. Those people seeking the vote had to prove residence etc, and the items sometimes provide interesing information. I have also seen a list of 18,000 electors in West Belfast in 1918, which was published in the Irish News December 1918. So although there might not be a full list of electors, local newspapers can provide fragments of information which still might open up some leads. 3. Just a thought, the post 1922 electoral roles are likely to be in PRONI. PRONI may know if any of the pre 1922 rolls are available in Belfast, Dublin or even in London. Why not send a query direct to PRONI and ask for a definitive answer? It might be worth a shot as access could be invaluable to us all. I would not be surprised if the political parties might have kept copies in their archives. Unfortunately, after the passage of years, such material is routinely assigned to the garbage dump. It is certainly a question that deserves an answer. Can anyone assist with definite information that might help? 3. To All, It certainly pays to belong to a mailing list. Andy and I have managed to connect because he has always offered what he has to all members of the list. Even though we first began discussing our Boyd line in 2001, we never came up with a connection until Andy offered us a copy of the WW1 Memorial plaque in St. Paul's Cathedral in Belfast. I asked Andy for a copy offline because I was searching for my grandmother's brother, William Boyd, who died in WW1. Andy was also searching for a William Boyd who died in the war. The Commonwealth Graves Commission lists one William and one William James as does the Memorial Plaque. It turns out that not only were the Williams' Royal Irish Rifles numbers only one digit apart, they died one day apart. All of this got us e-mailing each other again looking for a link. One piece of info that Andy sent was that the wife of his gg grandfather's brother, William, was Agnes McKavna/McKavanagh/McCavanagh. What do you know, these were my gg grandparents! Andy knew the name of James's mother, and I knew the name of William's father and now we have a complete set of ggg grandparents ( but like most records we are missing the maiden name of our ggg grandmother!) And that is the latest part of our Belfast story - but it would not have happened if Andy had not so generously contributed to the Belfast mailing list. Thanks for your time, Margaret Bendickson >______________________________X-Message: #1 >Date: Wed, 24 Aug 2005 18:02:10 -0600 >From: "Andy Airriess" <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Message-ID: <[email protected]> >Subject: Miracles do happen! >Content-Type: text/plain; > format=flowed; > charset="iso-8859-1"; > reply-type=response >Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > >Listers, > >After years and years, I've finally met the person of my dreams. 3. Oh my Andy!! How wonderful for you!! I know your excitement Andy! Although I am still looking for relatives of my elusive 'Nana' Belle McGee from Belfast, I too was lucky with my mothers fathers family from Knock, Co. Mayo. I had started this addiction in 2001,posting many notes to all of the lists at Rootsweb, and out of the blue I heard from a fellow from Mayo that thought we were related! We exchanged emails and scanned pictures and sent them and found that we were third cousins. Our ggrandfathers were brothers. He was as excited as I, and I had the good fortune of meeting him and his family in Mayo in 2002, in Mayo. I have been back every year since, and not only that, have introduced them to my fathers family from Claremorris, just a stonesthrow down the road. Amazing......... I must say it has been one of the highlights of my life..like you too, am sure Andy!! Never give up..one never knows what note will be in your inbox when you next look!!
