    3. Maureen, I have a connection to Murray from Carickmannon, and may also be able to hel with O'Prey. My gggfather John Savage, Edendariff, married Sarah Anne Murray, Carrickmannnon, in 1879. There are also O'Preys in my wifes family tree. I would be happy to exchange details. Best wishes, Brian [email protected] wrote: As I am a halt in my research can anyone help with the above Co Down and Belfast names, Carrickmannon, Darragh Cross and Raffrey and Belfast, I would appreciate any help. 2. Good evening listers, I have a Sunday school medallion that belonged to my grandfather, Thomas Chambers. On the front is a engraving of Jesus with longish hair and beard wearing a cpae. The words Salvator Mundi are also engraved around the edge of this face. On the reverse is engrave First Presbyterian Church Belfast. I have checked in the Guide to Irish Parish Registers for such a church but found none. Has the name changed? Does the church still exist but occupied by another denomination? 3. Hello Al I may be wrong here - I occasionally am - but I think 'under age' refers to being under 21. Anybody under 21 needed parent or guardians consent to the marriage. A marriage where one of the participants was aged less than the legal requirement would not have been allowed - it would have been illegal and no churchman (priest/vicar/minister) or registrar would have performed the ceremony if they had known one of the parties was under the legal age for marriage. That doesn't stop somebody declaring they are older than they are and being married under age, but it would have been kept secret. In England in 1858 the legal age for marriage was 12 for girls, but I don't know about Ireland. 1. Caution when travelling in Belfast
    2. Because he was driving a Dublin Registered car they assumed he was a Catholic. Please be careful if you are renting your car in Dublin or Shannon and travelling up north. Here the ugly face of bigotry: From the Belfast Telegraph: Ex-Irish League boss in mob horror By Fergus Black 13 September 2005 FORMER Bangor football manager Roddy Collins has spoken of his terrifying ordeal after he and his wife Caroline were confronted by a "frenzied" loyalist mob while driving home through east Belfast. The current Shamrock Rovers boss and brother of former boxing champion Steve Collins had just driven off a ferry from Stranraer in his Take note-----> Dublin-registered car and was heading for the motorway when he encountered a gang of more than 100 people, some carrying baseball bats, hammers and iron bars. And he told how he "put the boot down" to escape after making a split second decision to swerve through a six-foot gap to avoid the mob. While in Scotland, Collins said he had watched the television footage of the rioting unfold on the streets of Belfast and had made up his mind on the ferry on the way back that he would "put my boot to the floor" if they were confronted by a mob. He told RTE radio yesterday that after driving off the ferry on Sunday he swept around a corner near a housing estate in east Belfast and saw about 100 people blocking the street. "There were fellows with hoods, scarves, baseball bats, hammers, there was one fellow with an axe. They were throwing stuff at the cars, bottles, stones, bike wheels and frames - anything to get you to stop." A woman aged 24 or 25 was about six feet away shaking a claw hammer at him. "She was 'effin' into the window - the hatred and vengeance was unbelieveable. The fellow with the axe was just standing there, another fellow with a baseball bat, fellows with sticks and a fellow with a big iron bar. There was rocks, bottles, bits of bicycles and everything getting thrown." Collins, who played for Crusaders and managed Bangor in the '90s, said that he had never seen anything as dangerous in as what he confronted on Sunday.

    2. Dear CNB in DE - - - Yes, some of those volunteers have been very helpful and there are a couple of extensive databases which provided information, particularly in finding the third daughter. I have had personal correspondence with a couple of them, and they cannot offer further help. The Archdiocese of Wilmington provided a list of microfilm numbers in the LDS FHC library, which was helpful too, but I suspect they may have been the source of the info provided by the volunteers? Then earlier this summer a cousin visited the last remaining cousin of the generation prior to us living in Chester, Pennsylvania (where Margaret Walsh married and settled) and cousin made the remark "they moved to Philadelphia early on" - - - - (she's 96 and could not elaborate on that statement.) Then I went into the Phila archives looking for census which might list Michael and Bridget with those daughters (1870? 1880?) and here again there are so many of them with the same names. The city directories of Phila for, say, 1875-1900, have hundreds Michael Walshes. And the Diocese of Phila charges $35 an hour for a search for death records which would be prohibitive without a definite date/location, etc. We have been searching for years and feel we have exhausted every possible source in the US which is why I went back to the Belfast list, hoping there may have been family of Michael and Bridget that remained there who would recognize the names/time/place I mentioned previously. Thank you for your suggestions - - - - - - - -Onward !! Dori

He married Bridget CALLAHAN, origin unknown. It is not known if they married in Ireland or USA. It is not known when or from where they emigrated----ships lists from the early 1850s have many, many Michael Walshes, no way to pick one and say "he is mine"!. They settled near Wilmington Delaware (Claymont/Talleyville?) and produced the following daughters: Anna b5-2-7-1855, Sarah b2-14-1857, Margaret b6-26-1862. All were baptized at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine R. C. church. There may have been more children, but if so, I am not aware of them. I have not found them in census or tax rolls or death records. Church records produce no more information than the baptisms above. I have several wills with these parents' names and daughters with same names, but there also many more children named in the wills (lotsa boys, always with a Patrick, a Michael, etc!) but my family lore only names the three daughters ---- Margaret is my ancestor. Walsh/Callahan unions are so numerous I have no way to pick out one couple to pursue, and I am wondering if there may be ancestors still in Belfast who recognize my great great parents as described above as to location, progeny, etc, who might produce a clue for further search. If so, I will be eternally grateful !!!!! DORI in So Calif, USA

    1. More New Rosemary Church Records Belfast Ireland
    2. Hi Folks Just to let you all know I have added more Rosemary Street Church Records Belfast Ireland to my site. The marriage records now start in 1811 and end in 1845. I also have Baptisms starting in 1823. If you want to take a look go to http://www.ancestorsatrest.com/church_records/ This is a handy database for Belfast genealogy. Hope this helps. 3. Brian, Thanks for the list. I've read two other of Martin Dillon's book and found them fascinating. Just for edification, where are the Catholic neighborhoods the current rioters wanted to march through? We're getting scant coverage here in America. Andy
