    3. Thanks for the suggestion. They were both definitely Irish as I have other members of Benjamin's family and I have anecdotal evident for her being Irish too. 3. Hello I am trying to trace a Benjamin Weir (born Carlow, 1885), married a Florrie Flood anad worked at Harland & Woolfe as an electrical engineer. I have no further information and have been unable to find a death or marriage in the GRO indexes. If anyone can suggest further avenues of research, I would be grateful. For example, I do not know if there are any records, or where they might be held if there are any, for the employees of Harland & Woolfe. Many thanks Stephen New Zealand

    3. Stephen, The children I was talking about: Their parents were Irish, and other children in the family were born in Ireland as well. Two were born in Scotland. In my own family I was unable to find my g-grandparents family in Belfast for the 1901 and was unwilling to check all the rolls of film looking for them. All the members of the family were born in Belfast. To my relief when the 1901 for England came out, the family were in Liverpool and I located them there. We also have an elderly family friend who was born in NI, as were her parents, but she spent a number of her childhood years in Scotland. Can't hurt to check. Andy Airriess

    1. Re: [BELFAST] Marriage Ages
    2. Dick Dunlap
    3. Al; The full legal age for marriage was 21 years of age. If the party marrying was that age or over more often than not the word "Full" would be put in the "Age" column. If the person were not 21 or older the actual age would always be placed in that column. Having looked at hundreds of marriage registrations I've never seen one below 16 with the majority of the underages being 18,19, or 20. And my impresson is that no more than 5% of those i reviewed were under full legal age. Hope this helps. 1. Church Photos
    2. Church Photos on my web site at the link below. Alternatively type Jean McCarthy into the Google search engine for a direct link. I have started a page of miscellaneous church photographs sent to me from all the kind fellow genealogists around the world. The first two photos (and only ones so far) on this page are of Trinity Church Belfast. They were kindly sent to me by Joan in Canada. Actually they are not photographs but seem to be drawings. It is wonderful to receive these images as photographs are not possible any more. Joan tells me that the church was destroyed in the 1940's. Presumably it was destroyed in the Blitz of Belfast in World War II. I expect confirmation of this shortly. Thank you so very much indeed Joan for sharing these wonderful pictures with us all. A fellow lister asked for a photograph of Broughshane First Presbyterian church which I have not got yet. Another kind lister sent a web site address which has the photograph that the first lister was looking for. I have written to the web site owner to ask permission to put the photographs of this church onto my web site. I will let you all know if and when I get a favourable reply. Kind Regards. Jean McCarthy nee Moore. Staffordshire, England. My own main names of interest: MOORE, (Ireland, Canada & Australia) BOWDEN, (Ireland, New Zealand, Tasmania & Australia) HAWTHORNE. 3. Maureen, Sarah Annes father was Patrick Murray, farmer. The witnesses to her marriage to John Savage, were John Murray and Sarah Mulholland. The wedding itself took place in St Matthews Belfast, 1 May 1879. However, they must have moved back to Edendarrif, as I found her there in 1901 Census, and just recently I found Sarahs obit in the paper, which stated she died Jan 27 1917, Edendarrif. I have'nt much on O'Prey at the moment, but know that there were some in Belfast. I will check through my stuff, as I think I kept notes on any I came across. 1. Agnew - McCarther; Magee-Agnew marriages.
    2. brian magaoidh
    3. I have a marriage certificate which I got a while ago while researching my Agnew connection. I dont think this is connected to me but in case someone else might find it useful, here are the details: Marriage solemnized at the Registry Office in the town of Belfast in the District of Belfast, May 7th 1853. Arthur Agnew, aged 21, Bachelor, Labourer. Living in townland of Ballyvessey, Parish of Carnmoney. Fathers name, Isaiah Agnew, Labourer. Ann McCarther, aged 22, Spinster, living in townland of Carnavee(?), Parish of Ballymartin(?), father James McCarther, Labourer. Both Arthur and Ann made their 'mark', and the witnesses were Samuel McMeekin and Mary Craig(who also made her mark). Registar was William McComb. My interest in Agnew comes via my ggmother Esther (Essie) Agnew who married Hugh Magee, Belfast in 1890. Hugh was living at 52 Wall St, Belfast, and his father John was deceased. Esther was living at 22 Bow St, Belfast, and her father Arthur Agnew was also deceased. Witnesses were John Walsh and Eliza Walsh. I think Esther may have been living with the Walshs or there may have been a family connection. Is any one out there connected to either Agnew or Magee families? Many thanks.
