Dear Listers I have read with interest on what has been written about the Belfast City Cemetery and the success people have had when they have written. Could anyone please give me their address and to anybody in particular the letter need to be addressed to. I will send a stamp addressed envelope and do I need to send a fee?. With thanks. Maureen in Australia. Thanks also Jean McCarthy for the info on your website.

Hi there I went to Belfast city Cemetery 2001 - I found them very helful. The site is huge and one of staff very kindly took us to the graves we wanted, as they were unmarked. He went to a great deal of trouble looking them up in his huge record books, we did offer to look them up but he said we were not allowed to do that as the books were old and they had to be very careful with them. Beryl Jean McCarthy <jeanmccarthy36@googlemail.com> wrote: Try the link below. There is not an e-mail address but there are telephone numbers and directions on how to get there. There is also a page on the history of the City cemetery and explanation of the name Glenalina Cemetery. When I was there in 2000 there was no sign of a computer or computerised records. I had to search the original enormous old record books. If I recall correctly the cemetery is 99 acres in size so it takes quite a long time to find the grave that you are looking for. I hope this helps. Hi there who is researching the name ORR, I might be able to help. Beryl maureenoc <maureenoc@bigpond.com> wrote: ---- irl-belfast-city-request@rootsweb.com wrote: Hi Judy - If you look across the whole sweep of Rootsweb Archives you will see many references to the surname Orr - don't know whether they correspond with yours. I have a Matthew HUNTER of Ravara parish of Killinchy farmer who died in 1854. In his will he mentions a Miss Anne ORR living with himself and wife. I was wondering if anyone on the list is researching the surname ORR as possibly there could be a connection to my Hunters. Eireann: What you have done is the best way to receive info. You will have to give them dates. I knew that g grandfather was buried in whatever plot and gave them the # . Requested all persons by the name Holland or other names be sent. They gave me not only that plot but the one next to it and it contained part of the Holland family also. It will take them a while as they will have to search the records by book entry as they are not on computer. They are very helpful and I was pleased with their work Shirley USA sdholland@mindspring.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ulster3" <ulster3@gmail.com> To: <irl-belfast-city@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 09, 2007 1:55 PM Subject: Re: [BELFAST] IRL-BELFAST-CITY Digest, Vol 2, Issue 61 > 2. Hi Shirley: Thanks for the information. I will send the letter off today. I am sure my graves are not marked - I just want to know who is each of them. Brenda: I had great success. They sent me all the names in two plots of family members I was searching for. None of my family graves were marked, however, they were kind to look and give names in two plots. I was so pleased. Be sure and give them dates as their records are kept in cemetery books and without dates it is impossible to even begin.
