    1. John and Thomas PHILLIPS, location of BALLYNADOLLY, PARISH OF MAGHERAGALL

    3. Several years ago at the Family History Center in Salt Lake, I found John Philips on the passenger list of the ship "Mary Edson" which arrived in New York from Belfast on September 2, 1863. John's age was shown as 20, occupation was "weaver." He was accompanied by his older sister, Esther, age 22, his brother Thomas, age 26, occupation "farmer servant", Thomas's wife, Hellena, also a "weaver," age 27, and their three children, Margaret, age 3, Mary age 5, and Esther, age 5 weeks. In the meantime I have found through IGI (Family History Center)and received a copy of Thomas and Hellena’s marriage certificate from Ulster Ancestry. It states the marriage was solemnized at the Registrar’s Office in the Town of Lisburn in the District of Lisburn on July 18th, 1856. Their residence at the time of marriage was “Ballynadolly, Parish of Magheragall.” They were married in the Registrar’s Office according to “the Provision of the Act 728 (?) (next words undecipherable) on Certificate by me. George ?” What I am trying to determine is what religion they were—his brother, John, (my great grandfather)was a practicing Roman Catholic in America. I do not know Thomas’s religion here in the States. Also the witnesses were Alexander Johnstons and Joana Smith—don’t believe they were relations—so maybe they ran away to get married as they were both 20 years of age. Also where is the townland of Ballynadolly—and is it close to the townland of Ballyclogh. Because in the Griffiths Valuation I find a John, Thomas and Robert Phillips in Ballyclogh, Parish of Magheragall. This John could be Thomas and John, Jr. (my ggrandfather) father. John, Sr. had a son Robert also, and his father was Robert (this info received from a pedigree chart of my aunt’s). Where might I obtain a map showing me this Parish and these townlands. Any what might Thomas’s religion be. How would I find the Catholic or Presbyterian churches in those areas where I could possibly write for baptismal records of Thomas’s children. Any help is most appreciated. Joan PHILLIPS Eddy Tucson, AZ
