My CD gives the county, parish, townland and year for those who had to pay these tithes. There are lots of James and Jas Johnstons. Is there any way you can narrow down your search? Nevin

I am seeking any information of SHANKS, could be in Belfast, Carnmoney or in Antrim Co. Know Mathew Shanks and 4 yr old son left from Belfast in 1767 to Charlestown, S. Carolina. Seeking who his parents could have been. He married a ?Wilson about 1760 and she died either before or on the voyage to the USA. John, Alexander, James, Mathew were common family names both there and in the area near Glasgow, Scotland.
