My YOUNG line starts with John YOUNG. His children were born in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. I haven't been able to get any further back than John. Sons Robert, Arthur, William and John all ended up in the U.S. in Millville (Cumberland County), NJ. I descend from Robert YOUNG and Mary Ann FORREST. Paula Millville, NJ< Paula, What are the dates for your Youngs in Cumberland County, New Jersey? Is that the earliest location you have for your John Young? Perhaps he is descended from Andrew Lamont Young, who was a linen manufacturer in Ballygowan (border of Raloo Parish with Kilwaughter Parish), early 1700s. This is not far at all from Carrickfergus. These Youngs were Lamonts who fled to Northern Ireland after a dramatic massacre of the Clan Lamont. (An internet search will bring up several hits.) To hide their identities, they changed their names to Young, Sitlington, White and Green. In the early 1841, Hugh Young (son of John Young and Ann Houston) and his wife Agness Young emigrated to the American colonies, making their way to Augusta County (Staunton), Virginia. Perhaps your Youngs are really Lamonts and are another branch of this same family. There is a DNA study ongoing for this line of Youngs. Here is an excerpt from the Young DNA page at : Case #2 Andrew Lamont Young Lamont Youngs Several people have been working to prove their connections to the Lamont Youngs whose patriarch was Andrew Lamont Young born 1644 in Toward Castle, Kyles of Butte, Argyleshire, Scotland and died in Antrim Co, Ireland. Andrews son John had Sarah, John, Hugh, William, Jane, James & Robert. Harold Young (ShaLamont@wideopenwest.com) & James Michael Young (jmy4@aol com) have matched 23/25 markers R1b Haplo Type. Their paper trails both leads back to Andrew Lamont Young through son John to grandson William Young b 1705 Antrim Co, Ireland d 1818 Jessamine Co KY. Roy Youngs (roy_you@msn.com) paper trail leads back through Andrew to son John and grandson Robert. Roy has a genetic distance of 4 on 9/12 markers. Roy matches George Young (oldhiker50@aol.com) 12/12 markers. George suspects he connects Andrew Lamont Young through his son James C. b 1673 Antrim Co, Irleand d 1749 Augusta Co, VA. Genetic testing of other offspring of Andrew Lamont Young will be needed to make a conclusive decision as to proper connections of these families. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IRL-ANTRIM-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
