My Taggarts are from north Antrim, Anne. Do you know where Hugh Taggart comes from? Regards Nevin
One of the letters says Agnes can write to him at Ballylough, Parish of Killraughts, Tober Post Office. But I don't think that is necessarily where he was from but rather where he was working. There is another written from Ballylough on July 29 but I don't know the year of this one either. Ballylough is a bit north of where Carlea is and quite a bit north of Ballymena. I think the letters may have been written in the mid 1860's. My Stevenson family left N. Ireland in 1866 and I think Agnes and her mother and brother left before the Stevensons, but I am not completely sure of that. The letters are hard to read (I only have copies and there were no envelopes with them.) One is dated July 21 but no year and says it is from Killmeyangby. He does talk about going to Ballymena to get his picture taken so he can send it to Agnes. When researching my Stevensons and Mortons I always look for Hugh Taggart but have never come across him. I think what happened is Agnes's brother James and mother Catherine (her father John was dead) would not allow Agnes to continue courting Hugh Taggart - because his prospects were not good enough it sounds like. But she kept his letters until she died. There is a John Tagart on the Clough Pres. Church Stipend List in 1864. -----Original Message----- From: irl-antrim-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-antrim-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of TaggartN@aol.com Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 9:38 AM To: irl-antrim@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-ANTRIM] Carnlea - Parks My Taggarts are from north Antrim, Anne.
