Not my words - The registration districts established in 1845 adopted the Poor Law Union structure that was instituted by the Poor Law Act of 1838. This comprised a system of 130 unions or districts. As needed, the structure and boundaries of these divisions changed. These changes included the addition of new districts as well as the dissolution of others.
