    1. [IRL-ANTRIM] New to list - Researching Patton & Kirkpatrick
    2. Hi, I am researching the following families - James Patton (born v. approx 1840/5) married Ellen Kirkpatrick (born very approx the same time). They married 3 Aug 1866 at Croagmore presbyterian. James is listed as a Labourer from Ballyoglagh (I believe this is in Billy Parish?). his father is listed as John Patton, Labourer. Ellen Kirkpatrick is listed as being from Lisbellanagroagh and her father is listed as Robert Kirkpatrick, Farmer. James and Ellen had 7 children: John b. 1867 James b. 1869 Thomas b. 1871 Eleanor Jane b. 1873 Susanna b. 1875 Robert b. 1876 Alexander b. 1879 I have yet to get there birth records, but according to the IGI they where all born in the Croagh district or Ballintoy/BallyCastle area. I'm not really sure yet as to where to look for baptisms esp with them being Presbyterian. Thomas born in 1871 was my great Grandfather. Sometime before 1900 he came to Scotland and appeared to be living in Govan, Glasgow when he married an Elizabeth Golland Miller who was born in Rothesay, on the Isle of Bute. They married in Rothesay 16 Feb 1900 and are on the 1901 census together at Harmony Row, Govan, Glasgow. They had atleast 8 children including my Grandfather who was born in 1902 and died in 1943 during the 2nd world war. Thomas (1871) died in 1947 at Bridge Road, Renfrew, and was listed as a crane driver. His father James Patton is listed now as farmer, though i think he is more likely to have been still a labourer of some sort. I managed to find what I think is James Patton and Ellen Kirkpatrick's signatures on the Ulster Covenant in 1912 along with their son Alexander. I have: Place of signing: Dunsverick Orange Hall James Patton Address: Croaghbeg Alex Patton Address: Croaghbeg Ellen Patton Address: Croagbeg I think it's likely to be them. From oral history I know that my Paton's/Patton's in Glasgow, with the exception of my grandfather, were staunch protestants and freemasons. If anyone else is researching this family I would love to hear from you. Or if anyone has any info on any of the above or can offer me advice then feel free!! :0> Regards Morag P.S What is the difference in Ireland between a Farmer and a Labourer? I know the difference historically in England, but am quite unsure about Irish genealogy and still finding my feet.
