Whole the IGI says that the 14 children were born in Kilmanrock, the records from the USA said that the family moved to County Antrim before going to Albany, in New York State in the spring of 1762. 2/138 BOYD OF ALBANY, NY* The origins of this family stems from John Boyd who was born in the North of Ireland in 1725 of Scotch parentage. (I assume from this comment that his parents were born in Scotland and moved to Ireland prior to John's birth.) He was the emigrant ancestor and founder of one of the Albany, New York, families of that name (Boyd). Unfortunately this source does not say how many other Boyd families there were in Albany but does mention another family who came direct from Scotland in 1774, James and Jane Boyd. [NEED TO LIST AS SEPARATE FAMILY CHAPTER - 3/163] These called the Scotch Boyds while John's family were the Irish Boyds. In the spring of 1762 John Boyd with his wife Ann Logan and three children, came to Albany, New York. There is a well founded belief that he was one of the Kilmarnock family of Boyd, descended from a branch that settled in Antrim County, Ireland. Many family characteristics and traditions testify to this, also the fact that he used as his seal the coat of arms of the Kilmarnock Boyds, his descendants continuing the use of the same to the present time (1912). (This would appear to be the third family to have a seal of the Kilmarnock family.) The following are the possible parents and siblings of John Boyd (R1) which came from Doug Brown, USA. "Following is my list for the children of Thomas Boyd and Mary Millar taken from Scottish Church Records 2.00 at the local LDS church: 1. Robert Boyd 1722 Ayr 2. Agnes Boyd 1724 Ayr 3. John Boyd 1725 Ayr [assumed that this is R1 below from W. P. Boyd's listing] 4. Margaret Boyd 1727 Ayr 5. Mary Boyd 1729 Ayr 6. Jean Boyd 1731 Ayr 7. Thomas Boyd 1733 Ayr 8. William Boyd 1735 Ayr 9. Hugh Boyd 1738 Ayr 10. Anna Boyd 1741 Ayr" The International Genealogical Index for the United Kingdom has the following information on these children for Thomas Boyd and Mary Miller/Millar. As I have not yet copied the 1994 IGI for the UK beyond Margaret, I can't check to see what entries are there for the marriage of Thomas Boyd and Mary Miller. From the 1981 IGI for Scotland it has 2 entries at Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, for the marriage of Thomas and Mary which are:- (i) Thomas Boyd married Mary Miller 3 August 1721 (ii) Thomas Boyd married Mary Millar 30 August 1721 >From the 1981 IGI for Scotland there are eight Thomas Boyd's born between 1690 and 1700 at Kilmarnock (that is assuming he was born there) [SHOULD I LIST ALL THESE?] On the THEORY that Thomas's eldest son (Robert - R1 - see above) was called after his grandfather, ie Thomas's father, you would expect Thomas's father to be called Robert. In the list of birth's for Kilmarnock there are three such candidates for this Robert which are:- (i) Thomas Boyd, born to Robert Boyd and Elizabeth Aird, on 24 November 1700 at Kilmarnock. (ii) Thomas Boyd, bapt. to Robert Boyd and Margaret Connel, on 20 May 1695 at Kilmarnock. (iii) Thomas Boyd, bapt. to Robert Boyd and Jean Connell, on 9 May 1695 at Kilmarnock. Elizabeth Aird was married in 1692 at Kilmarnock Margaret Connell there are 4 entries between 1689 and 1691 all at Kilmarnock I could not see a marriage for a Jean Connel, although in the 1670's children were born to a James Boyd and Janet Connell Does anyone know of the origns of this family of Thomas Boyd born in the early 1700's. Secondly, did any members of the familystay in County Antrim. If so where? Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
