    3. Hi Lynette: Interesting story. You can check through the Family History Site for the 1881 Canadian Census. That might give you some information. I have checked and there were about 20 David Galbraiths. You can also go to http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html which is a Candian site that has the 1901 and 1911 Canadian Census on line. Go to the top right and then to the year you want. Make sure that you state which province you are looking for. I can't say for sure exactly what the document means - but I assume that he was working in a lawyers office and this would allow him to go out or take written statements. But the census should tell you what his occupation was. If he was still in Canada in 1911 and I think in 1901 it will tell you when they immigrated to Canada. Hope this helps Brenda Brampton, Ontario, Canada Lynette Rabbitt wrote: >Our son arrived for a visit from Brisbane on Tuesday night - he has brought >with him documents relating to my husband's GG Grandfather's involvement >with the Masonic Order - along with photocopies of 2 other documents one >which has Province of Ontario at the top with what is obviously a seal - >this document relates to approval for GG Grandfather to act as a >Commissioner for taking affidavits in and for the Courts in Ontario etc etc >and goes on to mention proceeding sto be had in the High Court of Justice >for Ontario or any other Court of Law or Equity of Record in the said >Province etc etc Dated 17 January 1882 and in the 45th year of her Majesty's >Reign. > >This was granted by the Honourable John Beverley Robinson, >Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of Ontario. > >On the reverse of the document it has Commission appoiinting David >Galbraith (GG Grandfather) a Commissioner for taking affidavits in and for >the Courts in Ontario, under the provisions of Revised Statue of Ontario, >cap 63. > >Recorded this 18 day of January A.D. 1882 in Lib.11 (could be 1 as the y in >January comes down to this line on the document copy Folio 12. > >Signed by what appears to be John N Ussher Deputy Registrar of the Province >of Ontario. > >So now that I have verified that there is only one Ontario I would like to >find out how to find out what this document actually means - was David >Galbraith in Ontario and for how long etc etc. > >So if one of our Canadian 'family' could help untangle this little piece of >unexpected information I would be most greatful. > > >Lynette > > > > > > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IRL-ANTRIM-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > >

    3. Thanks for that Brenda but from what I have been able to put together previously it sounds like it was more like an 'official post' that had a term of office. Had a look at what I could on where you suggested but there are no occupations showing and I am fairly certain that he was back in the UK in 1901. Lynette
